FS1 Question - Anyone able to finish "Pandora's Box" with No Recommendations?

Sorry if this isn't exactly the place to ask, but I'm just new here, and still new to FreeSpace 1. I've been playing it for a while now, and it's great! But I'm having a little trouble here, because I want to get a "No Recommendations" for all the missions. "Pandora's Box" is the mission where you're sent to investigate and scan Shivan cargo containers that might have some technology in it. But halfway through the mission, most of the containers are destroyed. Is it still possible to be able to scan one of the containers containing shields and get a "No Recommendations", or is it impossible?

Oh, and one more question...does it really matter if one of my copilots gets killed while on a mission? Does it affect the game or my stats in any way? Just curious....

There are many more missions where you'll get some kind of "recommendation". Read into them a little bit more...often times they will say that you can do little about the situation. This is war remember....it doesn't always go your way.

Loosing wingmen doesn't really have too much of a negative impact...but I've found that only in rare missions do you actually loose them all. If you know how to give them commands...they are absolute sheep however....if you tell them to do something, they will do it at all costs.

I guess there's a delay trigger...but they are set to blow when you get closer to them.

Load it up in FRED; you get "unable to scan" or "Empty" or something like that.

Hmmm...guess all of you are right. I even went so far as to enable the cheats I just recently discovered, including the cheat enabling the selected target to be invulnerable...doesn't work. They just blow up automatically once you're at about 2000 units away from them... Oh well...

I was able to do it once. I think it has to do with the fact that your wingmen are dying. But don't worry, you wont get any medal anyway...

Edit:
Oupps I just realized I'm speaking about an other mission... You cannot avoid the recommandation on this one...

Anybody got a No reccomendations text on the mission where the Galatea is destroyed? I don't think you can.

Actually, you can get a No Recommendation text with "Doomsday", the one with Galatea's destruction. Just make sure all the escape pods manage to make it out safely.

In 'Pandora' there is an amsusing debrief if you do manage to scan all the cargo (only possible if you cheat) which says something like 'we suspect you are working for the Shivans' etc.

kinda like the debrief if you make admiral, which goes something along the lines of 'we dont know how you managed to make it this far, but we suspect you cheated'

Or like on FS2: "Congratulations. You have earned your place in the highest echelon of allied leadership. Your character, courage, and genius are an inspiration to us all. On behalf of the GTVA Security Council and General Assembly, I hereby confer upon you the prestigious rank of Admiral. Now go read a book."

If you get all the way up to Admiral, Petrarch tells you to go read a book.

They all tell you to read a book at Admiral level, 'cos it takes about 1 year for the Vasudan to get to that point, by then you've died of starvation. Maybe that's why there's so few Vasudan admirals?
