Hi-Res Freespace 1

I keep hearing installing a high-resolution version of FS2. Is this option also included in FS1?

Posted by Mr. Fury on 02-20-2003 04:29 PM:

FS1 only supports 640x480 while FS2 supports 640x480 and 1024x768 resolutions.

However you can still make the graphics in both FS1 and FS2 better by installing the registry hacks.

Check out this thread for info.
You may need to look at my FAQ if you`re doing it to FS2 (unless you already know how to use VPView to extract the FS1 maps for use in FS2)

Or, you could play the Freespace Port to FS2 with all its FS1 goodness in hi-res. There are plenty of other goodies, too; check out the web page.

Assuming, of course, that you have FS2...

But it's missing the hi-resolution artwork, so he wouldn't be able to play in hi-res anyway...

It's only a matter of time before someone puts up the relevent .vp up for download (or it becomes available on Kazaa).

Besides even without the port in hi-res FS2 is worth having in and by itself

Hey, the registry hack worked. Not only did it make it look better, but the cutscenes ran smoother as well (no more skipping). I did this with some other games too (namely Fury³), and it seemed to have improved the texture quality, even if the resolution remains a tad bad...
