Just saw over at Voodoo Extreme that the international version of the Red Faction PC demo has been released! They have a few screenshots as well. The demo weighs in at 128MB ... once I get it downloaded (using the T3 I am sitting on, w00t) I will post it on 3D Downloads as a better mirror than Poland.

Yea I payed Â£14 and got on a Preview programe. Guess ill have to install Win2k I really like the look of this game.

There is a way to get the demo to work in winxp

1. Download DX8.0a for win2k
2. extract the exe into a empty directory
3. copy d3d8.dll from that directory to the red faction directory..
and tada red faction will now work

i think redfaction may be having problems with the DirectX 8.1 beta

Maybe because the O/S and drivers are BETA - hence they probably won't work in all situations. Just another reason for why I think using beta software is retarded (especially the O/S)

Remora its been pretty much proven that its not the os causing the problem its directx 8.1 beta....

if it was the os not even the subsitiute d3d8.dll trick will work

That wasn't my point. My point was that using a beta O/S and/or beta drivers as your primary mode is simply insane.

Great Ill try that now. Thanks for the Help. XP isnt a Beta OS is Release Candidate State and RTM within days so It isnt the OS.

Update No joy with replacing the dll. Guess ill wait for Full version HiRes Movie looks cool

Uhm, something is still beta until it is released. Having a different term (i.e. "release candidate") doesn't change that fact.

Besides, you still didn't understand my last reply. I wasn't saying the demo doesn't work because of the operating system. I said using XP before it is patched about three times is insane.

And I would rather not read your bitching about how sh!t doesn't work with your beta operating system.

Ever used Windows 2000? No? Figures.
W2K is a released OS and I'm already loving it.
I dual boot 98 and 2000, and the difference is like night and day.
