-- GTSG Mjolnir (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=9151)

GTSG Mjolnir

In my FS2 mission that I am making I have put in GTSG Mjolnirs. I have created an event that frees their beam cannons but when I play the mission they never fire. Why is this?

Posted by BabProj Team on 06-24-2003 08:07 PM:

Because unless you use Mjolnir#home beam then the Mjolnirs are setup to fire directly along their primary beam axis. That means that unless they are pointing directly at the target at a possible time of firing they will not work (because they aren't targeting and therefore aren't shooting).

Volition designeres prefered to use a combination of the Mjolnir and Mjolnir#home so that the ships are guaranteed to be hit by one or two beams as they exit and potentially more depending on their size and path that they take after exiting the node.

I wish they had given the Mjolnirs "auto-tracking" Give them a list of targets and when the target gets in range the SG rotates for a shot....that'd be cool.

I changed their weapon to Mjolnir#home but now I can't get them to point their beam cannons at the target. I tried to do it through the Edit Positon and Orientation. I checked the box, clicked on Object and then told it the ship I wanted it to point to but it didn't point the beam cannon at the ship.

How do I do this?

Quite simply you can't. Once a mjolnir is in a mission it stays in the position it's in.

That said with some table edits it should be possible to make a tracking Mjolnir. Ask someone at TBP how they did the GOD satalite or look in the TBP tables yourself.

Well I used mjolnirs once. Use: point to when you establish position and orientation of the gun, it`s quite good way. Udse. for example, point to a waypoint that is used by a ship you to be target for mjolnir.

The problem you're having is that the Mjolnir's beam isn't on its front... it's on the TOP. So the 'face this object' function doesn't work. You'll have to twist and turn it using the 'control object' function until it looks right, and even then you'll have to test and tweak.

To make it rotate, that's simple. Just give it rotation speeds in the table entry, with no forward velocity. The tricky part is getting it to orient the beam properly...

a moving mjolnir would be badass!

can you see it? it starts running after a ship, top first, at incredible speeds, firing its cannon all the time. totally awesome.

I'd just slap AAAfs (or even ULTRA Anti-Fighters if I'm feeling really sadistic) on the Alastor. The enemy fighters won't stand a chance.

That reminds me of the time I put SAAA beams on a wing of enemy Dragons; that was a bad, bad idea...

They were fighter beams based of the SAAA that I called FTRed. They were thinner but acted identically to SAAA.

Volition also said the Colossus has 80 turrets, so who would believe them?

In the tech room it says the GTVA Colossus has over 80 turrets...

In the game it has 63, I believe.

Who cares?
Maybe it was to scare the NTF away

Well NTF agents were captured on board the Colossus in one mission. Maybe it was cause they were running around looking for the other 17 turrets
