-- Narn Energy Mines Fighter version? (https://volitionwatch.game-warden.com/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=4316)

Question Narn Energy Mines Fighter version?

I know these are going to be in the game. have they been included already?

I was thinking about a smaller version that could be equipped on the Frazi. I imagine it would work as an area supession weapon like the piranha. Though the Frazi doesn't ofically have missle ports or hard points i don't see why It coulden't carry munitions. I doesn't officially NOT have missle ports or hard points either. It would also be nice against those zippy Sentri. As I recal the energy Mine effect was the quintessential expanding circular shockwave you see in all Sci-Fi including FS2 nowadays. This weapon, both on fighters and Capships, could have no actual explosion ani. Just a large shockwave. There was talk of redoing the shockwave anyway if I recall correctly.

For cap ships the weapon is so effective against fighters it would be nice if there were some warning when one was going to enter the area so you could hit your burners and get the hell out of there. I don't have any ideas for such a warning though. Does anyone else? Maybe if the shockwave expanded slowly you could try to outrun it... But it expanded very quickly on the show... hmmm. Any ideas?

Warning for energy mine suggestions, all coming from fighters onboard computer:

1. Pilot, GET US THE HELL OUT OF HERE!

2. Energy mine detected, suggest evasion manuevers.

3. Tell the fighter in the next bay over I love it.

4. The old big ass flashing HUD image.

And the shockwave shouldn't be slowed. For a fighter mounted type, the blast damage should be signifigantly reduced, but a cap ship version should have normal damage.

And to keep caps from shooting fighters with it, make it so the cap mounted version can only target large targets. It could still be fired on fighters, but only on large groups of them like a big space battle hand grenade.

I remeber the single most thrilling moment in FS2.

"DIVE! DIVE! DIVE! Hit your burners Pilot!!!"

Scraed the crap out of me, but I did as I was told. Saved my life man...

Don't know if most of this is possible...

As the TBP team always says: If you haven't seen it in FS2 it won't work...

Well, ok, missiles on fighters with shockwaves will...
Missiles on capships will, too.

But the other things? First ask the TBP people...

That's what I'm doing. Asking.

If a small version were mounted in a fighter it would need the distance readout common to area supresion weapons, and the press to launch, then press again to detonate, type attack system.

Does anyones else like this idea?

Posted by IceFire on 10-26-2001 01:38 AM:

Actually, I like the idea alot. The Frazi will definately have missiles. Infact, all ships need to have a Secondary slot or FRED2 gets very pissed off.

A small ball with an energy texture and a bit of a electric trail that emits no explosion and just a shockwave would be very effective indeed.

Its pretty easy to balance a larger version of this weapon as well.

The weapon could make a very nice fighter supression weapon. Limited effect against capital ships but enough damage to destroy fighters near the epi-centre of the detonation. Perhaps with an EMP effect. The Frazi would have to carry a smaller version, as the mines launched by the G'Quan cruisers had an area of effect which looked in excess of 2km. A bit excessive for a fighter based weapon.

You were saying all fighters need secondaries.

Does that mean that Starfuries will have missiles in the next release?

Also, what about Nials?

But you will probably like the Panther alot more. Very fast, very deadly when it hits the target.

Ah yes I forgot about the venom. Panther sounds cool and will there be seeking missiles or bombs in later releases?

The names might change but:

Panther - A very fast, very damaging, but not very manuverable (remember, this isn't FS2 - missiles are not for dogfights).

Bulldog - A very slow, long locking, but very damaging torpedo weapon. In sufficient numbers, even a Sharlin will crumble under the immense power of this weapon. Getting into position is very difficult however.

Minbari Shokrai - Already in Release 1 but not very well balanced or realized. A short range EMP weapon. Better against capital ship turrets than anything else.

Minbari Tlez'iar - Again, already in Release 1, but far more devastating in Release 2 and better balance.

Also a number of different Narn, Centauri, general (for Raiders and Non-Aligned) and other missiles.

There could also be computer voices for other things, 'ALERT: Jump Signature Detected' for instance. The voice for the computer could be similar to the ones in the series.
