Thumbs down GOD SAT's Beams

I have recently noticed that the colour of the GOD Sat's beam in the game is going to be red. I agee with the colour as you see it red in ACTA plain as day. However, if they are planning to make a high power beam, I suggest they make it a gold colour beam as on the epsiode "ENDGAME", when you see the Agamemnon about to ram the GOD Sat, the charge signature (the glittery glow you see around the main barrel) looks gold, suggesting when on full power the GOD Sat fires a gold beam, which would Macho Coolo. I would like to here other peoples thoughts on this.

I agree. I watched Endgame lots of times and I agree that it is somewhat gold in colour.

What is the range of that beam anyway? Why use only missiles against Sheridan's forces?

Umm...that was a test shot, a test beam, and a test graphic. Definately both in ACTA and in End Game, the beam was either stating to glow a orange red or was firing an orange red beam. Thats the color we'll use and thats the effect we'll try to accomplish.

Don't assume we've finalized anything until you have it on your harddrive....even then

Red is best...
All EA beams are red (except omega-X of course)..
Gold would look to fake...

The effective range of the beams is shorter than missiles because missiles can reach their target and constantly adjust their course the whole way there. Also, a missile's impact will not be reduced by range, but a beam will very slowly dissipate over several kilometres (unless it was perfectly produced). The more focussed the beam, the longer its range.

I'm guessing (based upon Severed Dreams) that Omega Destroyers' main beams have an effective range of about 5-10km.

Well, Clark was targetting the beams on Earth...

Lightbulb

Maybe the Colour of the beam depends on the energy used? High energy red beam, low energy, other colour?

Posted by Triggy on 01-07-2002 07:00 PM:

You have a point. Several times these laser/particle beams have been used in planetary bombardments so effective ranges must be referring to the effectiveness of scanners and/or tracking systems, not the beam intensity (although this too will be reduced).

I think that is the other way round. Low power is red (ACTA) and high power is gold. I neither saw any charge signature in a Call to Arms. It might be that the GOD Sat has both X-ray beams and partical beams, maybe?

In one barrel?
And red light has more energy than yellow, gold, whatever light.

Maybe the weapons were upgraded between Endgame and ACTA. What was it, five years between the two? They were in the ISA for a few years and technologies were exchanged. Maybe with the new technologies they gained they were able to create a new beam with a significantly shorter charge up.

Maybe the one is Engame was just the same one as in ACTA execpt if was charged almost to the verge of overloading.

This is all speculation and we will never know. I say just go with the red color seen in ACTA because that is the only beam we have SEEN fired from it.

No....the opposite. Red is the most "non-energetic" color we can see.

Posted by IPAndrews on 01-08-2002 05:48 PM:

In ACTA it was firing relatively weak thin beam. Red. In End Game in was powering up for the big, self destruct in the process, death ray type job. Orange / yellow.

Light energy by color follows the spectrum, red being lowest energy, purple being higher-energy. That does not mean that a red laser cannot be more powerful than a blue laser.

That's the EA-style...

Somewhere between End Game and Warzone, the colors got shifted a bit. So depending on what you saw and what you remember, you're probably not going to notice that they changed the colors a bit.

Regardless, here's the basics for this MOD:

1) For everyone's sanity and for some level of coherence, count on X-Ray Laser's to be red and Particle Beams to be a orangey red.

2) This is done for the sake of diferentiating between X-Ray and Particle beams.

3) This is relatively accurate and close to what was seen on the show.

CptWhite's beam could very easily pick up a shade of orange in it with about 6 lines of weapons.tbl code. Which is probably what we'll do.
