Cant host Multiplayer games

I can join multiplayer games nice and happily yes but when i make one it doesnt wurk right. I can load a map and play....by myself. nobody can see the games i start, help cause a bunch of my friends are on 56k and im cable and they want me to host a game but i cant since they cant get into my game. help. my specs:
P4 1.8
256mb rd
Gf3 ti 200
Windows Xp home
turtle beach santa cruz
(im connected to a linksys router but i dont think this would make a differnce do you?)
and I have the latest drivers and updates for everything.

you need to open a port on your router ... not sure what port that would be since I don't have RF ... but the router is definitely your problem (acts as a firewall if you don't specify the ports)

try it without going through the router first, and make sure everyone else attempting to join has your IP address

all ports are open, and it still doesnt work. and why would the people need to know my IP addres?

If they don't know your IP address, how are they supposed to find your computer?
It's not automatically put in the master server list, I don't believe.

ok i opened all ports as usual, and gave them my ip address to find the server through that add server thingy. they all said that they couldnt find it even then. and im sure its the right address. what now?

Hmmmmm. That IS an interesting question.
I don't have an answer, either. Perhaps someone else does?

a thought just occured to me. would i need to give them my internet ip address or my network ip address? because i have been giving them my network ip. 192. 168. blah blah blah.

Posted by HS-ChrisZ on 10-18-2002 09:37 AM:

lol your internet ip offcourse!

Posted by HS-Thanatos on 10-18-2002 01:11 PM:

Give them your external IP and let them connect. If they can connect, the problem is most likely that your router doesn't respond to the master server' ping. See if "internet ping", or "external ping" is disabled somewhere (in your router config).
If they still can't connect, the problem is -as previously mentioned- that the port isn't open/forwarded, or your firewall is blocking.

uhhhh...................boy i feel like an idiot. i have been giving them my internal ip not my extrenal one. oopps, not sure if it works anyway....uhh ill tell you if it does wurk, now to find a voulenteer...

Posted by Quazar on 10-19-2002 01:36 AM:

ive given them my external ip, extrenal ping is on, and all ports are open and port 7755 is forwarded. AND IT STILL DOENST WORK!!!!!!!!! AHHH THIS IS SO UNFAIR. but it stil urks me that in the info screen during a game (where you hold tab) it says my ip is still that of my network. hence the pic. so should i use that address or my real internet address that was previous advised?

Posted by HS-Thanatos on 10-20-2002 03:26 PM:

RF displays your internal IP because it's not directly connected to the Internet, hence it only has an internal IP. Your router has a internal and extrernal IP and (should) redirect all the traffic. So unless everybody is on your home-netwerk, you should give out your external IP.

So when your "volunteer" tried to join your server and couldn't find it in the server list he pressed "add server" and entered your external IP + port? Are you sure he didn't omit the port?

If he did enter everything correctly you could try to bind RF to a different port and adjust your router setting accordingly; just to examine the slight possibility that some other software is bound to port 7755.

If the server still doesn't work, you could try to run the server from a different PC (I take it you have multiple PC's considering you have a router), or connect your PC directly to the Internet (leaving out the router).

Make sure "LAN" isn't checked.

i have tried to get it to work without being connected to my network entirely with still no success. its just me directly to the cable modem and it doesnt work. no i dont have LAN only seletecd either. any other suggestions?

I have that same problem once in a while. Just join a game in Multiplayer, or get some servers on the list. Then go back and Create a game. Then it works for me. I have a firewall and if I dont refresh the servers then nobody can see my own server.
