Angry Help!

Could somebody please help me? I am having all kinds of weird probs with FS2 (Figures, right near the release!). It wasn't working so I re-installed after I tried everything. It still won't work. The interface is just fine, I am at version 1.20, but if I go to anything that requires the loading of files (i.e. command briefings and missions) it freezes four of the little units from the end. It just sits there and does nothing. Also when I go to the weapons database, it kills it. Just crashes the program right there. Here are my system specs:

1 gHz Processor
Geforce 2 mx
128 mb of ram (non EC)
Win 2k
Really old soundblaster

There are no Mods applied, and I have not done anything funny with the regestry. It worked fine on my old machine.

This is really pissing me off.

i have no idea but some thoughts...

old sb + new pc = problems with loops, compability
geforce 2 + older games = hell of a lot problems + old drivers = EVEN MORE problems....

these points might have something to do with this..

Make sure that the /data/tables directory is completely clean. No files in there at all.

Next thing to check is make sure your drivers are upto date. Check the sound settings on FS2 as well. Perhaps taking it off EAX support would fix the problem.

This sounds more like a video or sound problem since I think most of the actual textures, tables, and that sort of stuff is loaded at the beginning of the progress bar (thats when it boots me for having the wrong texture or a screwed up table ).

Thanx guys. it was working a while ago, but I'll check drivers, NVidia came out with a new driver a little while ago (I think), so I will try that next. Oh, tables are loaded near the end, I think that because when your table goes over regulation size (400 kb) that is where it freezes.

Freezes?

It just crashes to desktop with an error on line such in such which is actually totally incorrect but thats okay

In any case, remove any custom tables....custom files and the like. When all else fails, blame Windows...so 2000 might be a problem, unless it worked before...and I know some people didn't have problems so who knows

I don't think it will have anything to do with the graphics card. I have a Geforce 2 GTS myself and I've never had any problems.

If however the card is an OEM version, make sure you get the latest drivers from the computer manufacturers and NOT the NVidia site, because OEM cards won't run with those (believe me, I've tried!)

I built my computer from scratch, and yes it did work before. I was having probs. and it got so bad that I just tried a re-install. No custom files what so ever, it is just a blank full installation.

I've had this problem too.

If you have added custom ships to your .tbl files etc and they get beyond a certain size, FS2 crashes in this way.

I think you can add around three or four new ships before you have to start deleting old ones.

Hope that helps!

Or getting rid of 100k of comments

Even a full reinstall of FS2 doesn't remove any extra files you placed in there. Go look

I did a complete re-install of FS2, I even took out the directory! I haven't tried it out with the new drivers yet, that is next on my list.
