Mission of Mercy

Hello. For awhile now I have been following the marvelous actions of this project and this team, looking for updates, and drooling over what I have seen. And Now word of a "first release" soon, I can only plead mercy. Here is why:

In this day and age of Fibre Optics, satillite internet, and other high speed options, im still stuck on a snail 24,000 connection due to poor phone lines (yes, not 26.4, not 28.8....not 48.0 and definately not 53.0)

So my plea is this: Is there one kind soul that wouldn't mind burning a copy of this masterpiece to a CD, and mailing it to me? I completely understand to those of you who cannot, but if there is someone willing to help me, please contact me at souldust@concentric.net

I don't want to throw a wrench in the works, but we will be making additional releases later on....that'd be more worth it to fill a CD with...but I guess you have to do what you have to do.

Anyhow - Thanks for the offers, and yes I am aware of future releases, which I think i could manage down these crowded pipes, but im guessing the first release will be the biggest, perhaps not (well bigger than any expansion)

don't be so sure this will be the biggest release... if they don't add the music in the demo... theres a big d/l right there, then that movie thingy is sure to be huge also... and who knows what other goodies they will come up with

thats my DL speed. same as my internet speed. see, what they don't tell you is this. if you have a 56K modem it's not KiloBYTES, it's kiloBITS, so you DL at 1/10 what your model is, so if you have a 2.4 K dl, you have a 2.4 kiloBYTE connection, even if it's a 24K (KiloBIT) connection.

Actually, your tranfer rate would be 1/8 of you connect under optimal conditions and with no data compession.

But I'm just being a picky geek.

How many times to do I have to say it.

The download will come in parts. You don't have to have the sound, music, voices, or introduction to play the core materials. Those are definately enhancements and I wouldn't play without...but you don't need them specifically.

IceFire is right.

Though he is going for this component system everything except the FULL version is crap and not even HALF the fun.

Component system will be for the lowspeed internet users . But for the majority we will give ONE SINGLE FULL DOWNLOAD WITH EVERYTHING so you dont have to install lots of small things ( which is a pain in the ass , like with BUDA 5 )

So :

- TBP FULL : For ISDNers , DSLers and 56Kers who have patience . A ONE-FILE Download with the FULL experience. Recommended

- TBP LIGHT : The CORE-files but no music , no Comm Anims , no speech. Use your imagination to get an impression of what TBP could REALLY look like. Get additional downloads in the fullness of time.

Actually , I wouldn't go for anything than the FULL download. Even if I were on 56k or less. Waiting for TBP for 2 years would make me INDIFFERENT even to a 1-2 days download with GETRIGHT.
And I tell you , it is not HALF the fun with music , speech or anything else MISSING.

I have to agree with skullar on this.....

I imagine that playing TPB Light is worse than playing freespace with you're speakers turned off...

Even if only one small part is missing and u have everyting else, like u don't have the babylon 5 music or comm animations it wouldn't feel as good. I have on of the crappest internet connections but am getting cable soon when they bother to install it in my area

Remember that with TBP Light...you can still download the other components as you have time for them.

We'll also be making updates to those components, regardless of version, as we go along. I hope to god that there is nothing wrong with the music because that would be nasty to make major updates to, but some small interface changes wouldn't be much of a problem.

You'll all see very soon.

BTW: I think we'll probably be favoring RAR compression (and self-extracting zips), so make sure you grab a shareware WinRAR sometime (tucows). RAR's are smaller so it should be a mega bonus.
