Gadzooks! A picture!

I know, I know, its been a long time. But Styxx released some nice MT pictures and so, not to be outdone. Some BWO test shots!

Those are new background nebulas that I've been working on, nearly parallel (and taking advice from) Setekh and CptWhite.

Similarly, check out the MT forums for similar postings: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/Forum8/HTML/000041.html

My god. Those backgrounds are incredible.

Posted by Phantom on 12-18-2001 09:45 AM:

The highest compliment I can pay is that those backgrounds
look pretty damn real. And the ships look great too.

Posted by Mr Carrot on 12-18-2001 05:48 PM:

One assumes that is the standard suppourt fleet for the golgotha? if it my prairs have been answered, an important ship which has an escort, in fs NEVER!

i wubs ice.

Posted by IceFire on 12-18-2001 06:31 PM:

Well its just a test mission to test the new lighting and background conditions on differently textured ships.

Will the Golgotha have a support fleet, well that depends on the situation of course. There will be several large battles involving whole fleets of vessels.

As an old nebula background maker I must say that those nebulas look damn impressive.

*sigh of relief* Well I'm at least one-upping these folks in my 2d planets, let alone the tweaks I've recently done on the 3d ones.

But the nebula backgrounds are very nice, you'll be even more surprised at them when IceFire launches up the new BWO site.

I still want to see one of those planets blow up.

Aaah! Whoa! Holy ****!

These things are still cool!

When would a cap ship of that importance and vulnerability be deployed without a defensive fleet?

understandably with the collosus after all it did have a massive fighter wing (pity v forgot about that) but i mean the aquitain in an enemy infested nebulla with no sensors and no escort, GOOD ONE!

How do you know that there wasn't a small group of Deimos corvettes hunting Shivans only a jump away? Perhaps the attack was lessened because of a set of patrol fighters and a cruiser that just blew out the Shivan staging area.

I like to think of things on the larger scale. Tactically, the Aquitane was by itself, but its got 20 potential fighter/bomber wings (at least) and probably a good portion of the 3rd fleet in the nebula with it.

Aside from the first mission in the nebula.

No, that'd be the GTVA Capital planet. I named it, but I don't remember

Thats Beta Aquilae BTW. Sol is a deep blue color. Delta Serpentis is blue on one side, red on the other. Vega is very blue. Deneb and Sirius are very red.

And so on and so forth.

Why is Delta Serpentis blue and red?

Due to rotational wierdness one side always faces the sun which makes one side red (sunburnt) and the other side blue (cold).

While I can't speak for Delta Serpentis, V made sure that there was a consistent color pattern to the backgrounds. Note that the first three real missions of the game are spent in Deneb and the nebulas there are red. The ones in Gamma Draconis are strictly green, while the backgrounds in Capella and Epsilon Pegasi were a combination of colors.

Good job on getting the capitol system right, BTW. I hear far too many people say the GTVA cap is in Vega, Delta Serpentis, or some other system.

Posted by Ace on 12-19-2001 09:43 PM:

A lot of people say it's in Beta Aquilae do to that's where BETAC was signed. But BETAC was only one treaty that formed the GTVA, though an important one. (much like the Geneva Convention is one treaty that makes international law, but the United Nations is in New York, not in Geneva )

Delta Serpentis is the most logical capital for the Terrans in the GTVA, since it would have the highest population.

As for the Vasudans, it's debatable wether or not they're on Vasuda Prime, or a nearby system like Alpha Centuari or Antares.

Smile Vasudan capital

I'm pretty sure the Vasudan capital is now on Aldebaren.

Posted by Mr Carrot on 12-19-2001 10:47 PM:

i understand that Ice but there is no close suppourt, how far away are aegis destroyers from their carriers they are protecting, you always have one or two ships near important capital ships to act as shielding. One jump away, a ravana could have got the aquitane down to 25% within 2 minutes.

Im just saying that especially in the nebula there should have been cruisers literarily parked a foot away from the aquitane for the very least to act as a screen against suprise bomber attacks.
