Ramblings #14

first, a story --

going to college and getting a degree had always been one of my major goals in life ... and completing that degree in four years (while pissing the last term away cuz I was actually done in 3.5 years haha) is probably one of the most memorable things I have done.

however, that school will be the death of me. they have screwed me time and time again ... trying to keep me from that coveted piece of paper.

first it was not being able to get into classes that I wanted because their server was bogged down with requests and I ended up not making the deadline (that screwed everyone though), then it was screwing up my financial aid and not paying out until too late (forcing me to live off rice and mac/cheese for two months), and many more that I won't go into because I'll either bore you to the point of suicidal thoughts (if I haven't already) or they're too personal (haha)

NOW, I wait for that piece of paper to arrive in the mail (I graduated three months ago and still haven't received it yet) ... another in a long line of hold-backs? I think so. Sick of waiting, I email them yesterday basically asking "WTF?" ... their reply: "we experienced difficulty delivering degrees this summer, be assured your degree is fulfilled and will be received by second week of September"

my first thought? "I wonder what REALLY happened" ... my next thought? "wow, I've never received a response this quickly from the administration of this university"

Thought for the day:

why is it when you're an undergrad, the administration ****s on you ... but when you're an alumnus, they kiss your ass? I mean, they're actually getting money from me when I'm there ... and when they treat me like **** then, how do they expect to receive "donations" later? hahaha!!

Dunno 'bout your system, but we (Scotland) only start paying 'back' our uni fees when we start work.

heh. I know some people that wish the U.S. used that system

our loans are usually deferred six months ... but after that (no matter your status) you have to start paying back or they come find you haha

The University kissess your tushie now cause you are out in the real world making money......money they expect you to donate back to the school.

Sounds like everyones experience with a university Remmy. Me...I had to go storming into the financial department to figure out what the hell they had done with my registration. Holding it up for some reason (that I eventually resolved) and making me worry about getting into the 3/4ths of my classes that were all limited enrollment (the 20-30 person kind).

Part and parcel for the course I guess

I guess I can honestly say I had a pretty decent college experience. I can't think of any specific instance where I got screwed over. Except of course, having to pay back those loans is getting screwed over in and of itself. Also, working for the university housing dept. really pays off, especially when your boss can get a lot of **** done.

The best part of my college experience, by far, was dropping out...

Heh, those are just your run of the mill screwings there. You don't even want to hear about my troubles with UD's Parking Services last year.

Ok, maybe you do.

Last year I got my car broken into in a university lot (that I pay $145 a year to park in and its like a 10 minute walk from my place up/down a hill with no staircase or walkway, just woods) and I got my CD player, my CDs, and my cellphone stolen. No big deal, **** happens all the time. Right?

Anyways, the end of the year rolls around and I get my parking ticket bill. I knew I had $40 in tickets that my roommate had, but the bill totaled $130. Some asshole had got a hold on my permit number (which isn't too hard, anyone can read them off your car) and forged a fake permit and then proceeded to rack up $90 in parking fines all across campus. The car had Kentucky plates (mine has Ohio plates) and was a completely different color, make, and model than mine.

No big deal, I think to myself. I'll just call down to parking services and get this straightened out. I call down there (at work, since they aren't open any time when I'm not working) and tell them the story and the guy I talk to says that I have to talk to his supervisor and she won't be in until tomorrow.

The next day I finally get ahold of the supervisor. I tell her my story and she says "That sounds pretty elaborate". That's right boys and girls, this bitch just called me a ****ing liar to my face. By this time, I'm pretty damn pissed because this is my fourth phone call down there in 2 days. I attempt to restrain myself from yelling because I'm still at work. She tells me to call her tomorrow. I hang up the phone in disgust and then leave for lunch to blow off some steam.

Finally, after 6 phone calls, I get these bogus tickets pulled off my record.

The moral of this story, if you go to UD and you drive a Blue Pontiac Sunbird with Kentucky license plate number 001-GRG, you're getting your damn windshield smashed the second I come across it.

Costs me $180/year to park in my HIGH SCHOOL parking lot and they don't ever do ANY lot maintenance or ANYTHING (in Minnesota of all places, where there is a ton of snow). Talk about a rip off.

well i cant say I paid for school lol. I think all the tax payers did :-). I did a while in the Army, and reaped the benefits of all those cold and wet nights in the brush..Now heading for my 3rd,,i just cant stop :-)..

Things like this are why I still bike places instead of driving. That and I still don't have a car or a license.
