Download managers can't help if ISP is crap.
Those links have been posted twice already anyways.

Well now its compiled.

If your ISP is crap, get a new one. Dial up providers are a dime a dozen now a days....back a few years ago I was paying $21.50 Cdn a month for 90 hours of 56K service. I'm willing to bet you can get unlimited time for less now.

I do understand that in Europe and in rural areas the situation isn't quite so pristine, but I'd like to think that the situation is improving overall.

And you'd be right! Most of the things in th US are charged the same rate in pounds over here. But I think the best ISPs you're likely to have are DellNet (only on their machines), AOL and BT SurfTime.

You forgot ntlWorld for ntl users - completely free service with unlimited usage and decent speeds, only available if you have an ntl phone line.

Freeserve Anytime is for BT users only and allows unmetered net usage for a flat rate monthly fee of £12.99.

As most people have one phone line or the other, most UK residents have unmetered access to the internet available to them.

In this region of space you can get free internet everywhere.

I live in Finland, some may say that it's backward country or something. It's not. We have a lot of internet servive providers, only broadhand providers have some area restrictions.

I'm pretty sure that AOL CAN'T BE THE ONLY CHOICE Edwin and his parents have. It's insane if it is so.

Not including phone calls, they're not stupid.

Posted by Triggy on 11-07-2001 06:17 PM:

In Britain the phone calls with ntlWorld and Freeserve Anytime are free as well

That's why I was saying that ISP coverage is great in the UK!

I use ntlWorld when I'm not at Uni (i.e. 6 months of the year) and have had no real problems other than the outomatic cut-off during games. For any other thing you can use auto-reconnect such as downloads and for games, just plan your timing.

The two hour cut-off is to stop people from staying permanently online, eating up bandwidth. Don't forget, as you say, it is free

That letter is just plain funny, but all large companies annoy some customers at some time or other (just look at Microsoft and AOL. Both good companies but some people have major gripes about them).
