Cool Damage model realism

I think giving the player alot more resistance to enemy fire that was typical to B5 is fine. We'll just assume that as the player, you are a main character. This has a tendacy to make any pilot nearly invincible in the B5 universe. Watch Sinclair get hit by a Minbari heavy neutron cannon sometime. His engine takes damage. Big whoop. Garibaldi can ride into battle against the Shadows and all that happens is he dissapears for a week and comes back a little pissed off at the world. But if you don't have a name other than "Pilot 3" and your only line is "AAAAAARG!!!" watchout, a single twin array bolt will destroy you in a cataclysmic blast. So make the damage properties what ever you want. The less damage we take the more imporant to the plot line we will feel

Which is the way we've done things. Your Aurora can take a few blasts.

But don't get in the way of a Sharlin. You'll be fish food before you can say "Shiver me timbers!".

What about flight model. In those pics of yours starfurys speed was 60m/s! Now no offence but I think that it's a bit too slow. And don't start complaining about AI, i've made the original fs2 ships go almost 200m/s without any problems. With a few other modifications the main campain was completely playable with these speeds.

Now I'm not going to ask you to start rebalancing the flight model for the demo, but you probably want to think about this.

I just want to see ships get ripped apart by deizel minbari beams(i'm hoping one good shot from a sharlin kills a hyperion.)

Sure we can do it that way... if we can put Nials go 400m/s, that's going to be real sweet then.

Remember that these are the first versions of Aurora Starfuries which were made in Earth Alliance. I'm not entirely sure but didn't EA make a more advanced version of Starfury fighter later? And I don't mean Thunderbolt with this...

hmm.... but 60m/s !?!?!? That's slower than my mama's driving!

Ok, no, it's not. But for a space "FIGHTER", it's pretty darn slow.

I really don't care what you guys think 60m/s is. Its a GAME value above all else and it balances the ships very nicely. As Tomcat said, you try and hit a Nial going at 90m/s that can turn on a dime and blast you into oblivion if you let them get behind you.

We dumbed down the Nials a bit because they were so powerful.

Flying at 200m/s is stupid, annoying, and not very much fun after the 8th time you overshoot your target by 10,000 meters. Believe me, I tried it. Its not too great a'tall.

I don't doubt that. Just trying to show this can't be explained
by simply saying it's an early version of the Starfury.

Of course flying at that speed will be pretty stupid. It would be
cool, if we can display the speed as 60 + 140 m/s, so it shows
200m/s but runs at 60 m/s... that would stay true to the TV.

Of course... doing that probably means need to modify the original
code again :P

Perhaps you stop whining if it reads 60km/s or 60mp/s instead of 60m/s?

And what's next... perhaps you again start complaining about lack of newtonian physics?

I don't remember ever saying that....and the rest of the team is just being nice and trying to give you a reason (although incorrect).

The Aurora stats will probably stay the way they are...so no, we're not going overkill on varients or anything. Thats a waste. The Thunderbolt will be faster yes, but not by a huge margin.

We can't change the code right now so there's nothing we can do. Perhaps if we had access...yeah, we could make it read that you were moving faster, but I don't even think thats something thats important.

Well, that's where I was referring to.

I am not complaining, just joining in a conversation
that already started.

I am not saying the mod should have change
the flightspeed to be the tech. info at B5tech.com.

The conversation started with pera, who said the
starfurys speed was 60m/s. First of all, I looked at
the pictures, and at no where says the unit is at "m/s".

Therefore I was commenting at this unit that he came
up with is slow for a space fighter.

I know that we don't have the original code,
I've been watching this forum for a year now.

If I really want to complain, I would complain about...
nothing. I love this mod, if there's anything I don't like
It's the new atomosphere created by the close release
date. Everyone (mod team or not) is so wound up here.
Harmless comments that used to start a discussion is
now a special privilege for people that are close to the
mod teams.

Loosen up, release is near, we should be celebrating,
not chopping each other to pieces.

True enough. I just find I have to defend myself and the team from the masses who, if they were to have it there way, would have some crazy, unbalanced, and incredibly annoying MOD

It is displayed as m/s in FS2...so thats how we have to work with it. But, again, it really doesn't matter to me and it shouldn't to anyone else.
