Question PXO TBP play

Anyone interested in playing the mod online?

Posted by Bobboau on 03-12-2004 02:54 PM:

kaz should validate R1 and R2 for FSO's online play

Kaz has to "validate" a mod? Oh man. Kazan owns Freespace

Of course he must, to be able to make sure all players have the same game. Would you like to play against someone with modded tables?

Run a checksum on the tables used by the server and clients and compare the two.

Umm, so? Don't you also need to know about a mod's existence to be able to tell the server what to call it... There's also point tracking and whatnot it needs to (preferably) store under something more intelligible than an md5sum, and that name also helps for choosing a game on the server, so you don't need to guess blindly what mod some open game is. :p

But what's top stop someone making a mission in which he and a friend kill one ship and instantly become admirals?

Hell I have two networked within easy reach. I could do it without even needing a friend to cheat with me

Validation is only needed to make sure that your pilot's score can't be faked. You can play unvalidated missions easily. I don't think the server is set up for online B5 Games yet but I don't think that would take too long if someone were to ask Kazan nicely

Once kazan releases the tracker you'll even be able to set up your own PXO-lite but IIRC the main Tracker is being set up so that your scores from TBP and FS2 will be amalgumated.

im checking my files making sure the install is valid and up to date...

[edit 1]

WARNING There is bug in the -mod flag - if it is not the last flag it's argument will have trailing whitespace and fail to function

[edit 2]

TBP is running on port 12001 - same IP

for the config to work with -mod you need to put the normal config in /data and the TBP config in /tbp/data

Just don't be hasty, if it isn't too much of a nuisance. The community might understandably be slow to react, with all the recent flur of activity in this front and all. ;)

Dang, even I haven't yet arsed myself to test out the new FS2 multiplay, which I should have done ages ago with great enthusiasm. I guess it's just that I haven't bothered much with gaming in a long while, just a little now and then.

I would LOVE to play TBP over PXO.

Just have to remember my old accout

But I have a question. If this really happens, how will it be with all the SCP stuff? Will this work only with/without or no matter of it?

This isn't over PXO. It's over its eventual replacement. You don't need your old PXO login.

You MUST have an FS2_open exe to play this way but apart from that and the launcher you don't need any of the other SCP goodies.
