rolling parts...

I just wanted to know, if there's going to be any rolling parts in ships. For example Earth Omega's rolling part in the middle. I didn't notice any rolling parts in any ship in freespace 2, not that I remember. But I also wanted to tell you guys that you're doing a great job, and keep it going, I can't wait when this mod will be released!!

GTSC Faustus, GTD Orion, Knossos, etc

All of those have spinning parts. We can make B5 rotate with no difficulty.

Rotating ships are everywhere in fs2 best of which is the Terran science vessel that has rotating solar panels....anyway the answer is yes, we can implement rotation very easily as its part of the original code, we wont have problems like the homeworld team

I don't know how someone could miss the Shivan comm nodes from "Into the Lion's Den"

Those were nothing but rotating bits

Nevermind the Knossos portal

And the Shivan node

I've got a question (as always). Will the Omega models have their own individual name tags (i.e. Agamemnon, Roanoke, Pournelle, etc.) or will they be kinda generic, like the GTD Orions in Freespace 2? I figure this would mean each different destroyer would also have to be a completely seperate table entry, based on what I know about the difference between the GTD Orion and the GTD Orion #2 (the Bastion) in the ships.tbl. Does that mean if you wanted twenty individual destroyers with their own name tags you'd have to have a table entry for each of them?

Also, does anyone know what the big letter on the side of the Omega's front hull represents? It can't be the order in which they were comissioned (there are twenty-six letters in the English alphabet, and there are many more Omegas than that). It can't be the first letter of the ship's name either (EAS Agrippa had an S, Roanoke an M).

Okay, that was way more than one question. Thanx in advance.

Every site I've visited hasn't been able to discern what the letters mean. A couple of ships have even had their letters changed mysteriously through the episodes and seasons.

We might do a favorite or two...but most will be generic. We'll do it like the Bastion and Galatea were done in FS1 with duplicate table entries. We're definately not going to have 20 entries for Omega class ships if we could dedicate those 20 entries to other ships.

If the limit is lifted on the size of the tables in FS2 through the source code, then we could do that and all kinds of other things.

if we get the source we can use the insignia cod to name nameplates.

Yeah, I figured that it'd take a lot of table space if you wanted to have lots of individual destroyers. BTW, how hard would it be to give an individual name tag to all those different Omegas? Would it be as easy as changing a single texture or would you have to edit the entire model?

Posted by IceFire on 03-24-2001 04:01 PM:

Change texture and model to fit with the new texture name.

changing texture names is one of the easiest things to do in PCS
