Missions now available for download

As promised, my web site is now on-line b5.madaboutgames.com
the first 4 missions are available for download, the sample pack must also be installed which is only 2.1mb. Hope you like them, if you don’t tuff. I’ts my first missions I have ever created, I’ve only used fred 2 for just over a week. These missions play fine on both of my pcs (Athlon 1.3, 1.2 gb ddram, g-force 3) (P4 1.7, 256mb sdr ram, g-force 4) and my friends (Athlon 900, 256mb ram, g-force 3). My resolution can't seem to go above 640x480, so if you can get yours to 1024x768 im not sure how it will play so let me know.

The shadow fodder mission is not the ship of tears episode. This mission is based later on, the psi-core has secretly made the Omega-X with help from the EA. All will be explained when you play the mission. My first full campaign (series 2) which will be 17 - 20 missions will be done by mid July. Season 3 should be ready late august. As with all campaigns the missions will be missions from the series and some extra ones eg. the 4 finished ones. But they won't be released until the final pieces are put in eg. bab 5 station, white star and battlecrab. I’m currently working on the missions so I only have to put in the missing ships. So not long after I get the ships it should only take me a week or 2.

I could do with some help and advice on compiling a campaign with a mission progression structure. Basically if certain objectives are met in a mission then you may progress to the next. If some or none are completed, i want to be able for the player to progress to a different mission (depending on storyline). If anyone knows about this please e-mail me.

This is actually fairly easy. Once you have the hang of the campaign editor you'll probably find it of only minimal difficulty to do a branched campaign. How much experiance have you got of the campaign editor?

Campaign editor is really easy, I haven't had any problems with it. With branches, loops, linear all comes just well along

Thanks

Thanks for downloading and playing my missions. Its becuase im the worlds biggest babylon 5 fan. Thats what gives me the motivation to get things done. Don't mean to offend anyone but i know it can take a while to do missions, but i did my first ever 4 missions in a week. So im looking at getting the first campaign of season 2 finished by mid July. But it can't be released until the b5 station is released as this will be in many missions. I love b5 and love the TBP mod. The biggest thanks should go out to those who made the mod possible. Without the mod, I wouldn't have even played freespace 2, never mind making missions for it.

What do you think of "the Williamson" the next gen EA heavy cruiser i designed?

Just had a good look at the site and I'm pretty impressed by what I see

I haven't had a chance to try your missions yet but I'll try to give them a go sometime soon.

Sadly many people start off quite quick and slow down once the novelty wears off. I think many of us have gone through the fast FREDding stage and then slowed down when Real Life interfered.
However if you can keep up the momentum you've got at the moment you should be able to finish the campaign quite quickly so don't let me discourage you (in fact a newbie completing a campaign singlehanded in only a few months might be inspirational to the rest of us slackers )

Yeah, tell me about it

True, that momentum can get a lot done in short time. Mayby a bit too short time.

The Centauri and Vorchuns

Cheers for the feedback, but the missions I'm currently working on and the ones I have planned will be better than the 4 first missions. As I spend more time on fred I learn new things, and i intend to put them into practice. Don't worry about me not keeping my word about completing the missions I have planned. Because when I start something I always finish it. And Babylon 5 is the best thing in the world (apart from the wife. The avalanche has already voted, it is too late for the pebbles to vote! (Kosh)

There is a few problems with the AI. It might be to do with the programming side of it, I’m not sure because I’ve tried allsorts. But In Babylon 5, the Centauri Vorchun is a jump in, strike, jump out vessel. In numbers they can be quite effective. In the Ambush in the dark mission, you will see the Minbari Cruiser take out most of them, or heavily assist. And in the Easy Pickings missions, The Agamemnon manages to take only a couple out before the Narn Cruisers arrive. And don’t forget that John Sherridan commands the Agamemnon in both missions, and he hard as f**k.

Overall, I watched the trailer for the original Babylon 5 game. I thought that Id love get it the Day it comes out. Then it’s cancelled!! I’ve been so distraught since that I have used mods to fill the gap Mainly Homeworld Mods which is quite a good game, and there are some good mods out there. I love flight sims and wanted a sim like Babylon 5. After coming across The Babylon Project site, I borrowed Freespace 2 off my mate. After playing a few missions I thought this was great. But there are hardly any missions. And the ones that are around are good, but they don't have that atmosphere of Babylon 5. After I added some sound effects, and made a mission without even reading any sort of tutorial for it. I thought this is easy enough to use, I can basically make the Babylon 5 game I imagined. So it’s not just making promises to other people about making missions for it. I want to do it for me, to play the game I'd always liked to play. So I hope you enjoy them and the ones to come, because I will.

Sounds good...enjoy yourself and keep us all appraised of what is going on!

I'm sure nobody more than I would love to see some more user campaign missions of good quality and that captures that B5 atmosphere.

You know something? This kind of enthusiasm is quite infectious. I've probably worked harder on my own campaign today than I have in a long time (and it's not like I usually ignore it!)

BTW check your PMs ShaunW.
