alternative space games???

does anyone know of any other space games that are like fs1, fs2, wingcommander and allegiance.

I realize that allegiance was online, but still it had that fast paced action. ive recently tried jumpgate, and well the long long jumps from base to base carrying cargo was BORING!!

any alternatives???

horizons looks like a great upcoming game, but mouse driven???? with no joystick support? I dont get it.

thx

If you a Star Wars fan, then you may want to try out X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and X Wing Alliance. They may seem a little old but they are worth playing.

I-War 2 is not bad, some even find it excellent. Tachyon is nice, also.

If you're prepared to get retro the Wing Commander games are still great fun (although my graphics card can't cope with them ). If you want something a bit more up to date then Starlancer is great for a quick blast but don't expect anything in depth out of it. It's short lived (unless you play online or replay the game!).

X-Wing Alliance would be a great choice, there's lots to do in it and it still looks pretty good as well (especially if you install the XWA Upgrades). Obviously - it's Star Wars though so if your not a fan it might be a bit to much.

Independence War 2 is probably the best all around space sim released lately - it's fast paced as Freespace at time and allows for you to do pretty much anything you like (without following the story) if you don't want to. You'll need a decent computer to run it though.

If you still enjoy FS2 then look at some of the mods for it - in particular the B5 Project if your bored with the standard gameplay.

Hope that helps

Two great space-sims

There's also the game Noctis.
Its a freeware space-exploration game that lets you explore 70,000,000,00,00+ stars and their planets.

Tough not a space-war-sim like Freespace or I-war, it is still one of the greatest space-sims ever created.

Beavre tough: noctis IV (current verison) has very low-res graphics.

The comunity eagerly await Noctis V, hopefully it will be relased within this summer.
It will feature bether graphics (1024*768 and 32 bit) and much bether controls.

The adress is http://members.designheaven.com/~44/noctis.html .

If you do check it out; remember to visit the official forums, as they aid a lot to the gaming experience.

Now you can even participate in the offical Noctis photo-contest, visit the official forum for more info.

------------

Then there's also Orbiter, a great space-flight sim with correct nevtonian physics and realitsic gameplay. Orbiter lets you go to any planet in the Sol-system (in real-time I might add), and also features great graphics and very high value. Orbiter is the most famed freeware space-sim to date (untill Noctis V comes, that is...)
It is definently worth a look, escpesially if you are a developer, as you can create anything from your own ships, to entirerly new solar-systems!
Everything in Orbiter is changable, and it has a community of many tousands of developers, astronomers, gamers; and even sci-fi writers!

The adress is orbitersim.com
---------------

Both of these sims mentioned above are great, both is unique in their own way, and both just addicts you, and keep you coming back for more...
They are not space-war games, but they are still great; definenelty the best choice there is for high-quality games that is as addicting as they are fun and interesting.

Lol... I hope it doesn't HAVE to be in real-time. Imagine that!

Orbiter is in real-time, but there is an time-compression control that can turn months into minutes.
If not, it would have taken 450 days to reach Mars...

I recomend that you try the two prodcuts.
Especially Noctis, as it goes even further then orbiter, and let you land on planets and explore them.

I highly recommened Tachyon. Just make sure to patch it, and you have a decent computer. It can be found for cheap. But best of all, it stars Bruce Campbell, that's right, Mr. Evil Dead himself. His voice work makes the game. It also adds a nifty slide feature, and elements of privateer, but not as full blown as privateer. the X-wing games are also worth while. I also found another little shareware game that's quite promissing. It was on a game mag disk recently, but I can't rember the name. I'll post back.
