Funky Omega Variant

It is an interesting design and I think it would be interesting to have in the mod (but let us be careful about adding non-canon ships, we don't want to be deluged in a sea made up of bored mens idle thoughts) but I hope they change the class name a designation. Psi class Battle Destroyer sounds rather cheesy, especially given that Psi is associated with the Psi Corps. Battle Destroyer is redundant and silly. Command Destroyer sounds more appropriate (based on the assumption that additional command facilities have been added in the additional rotating section).

The Omega class was by far the Earth Alliance's most succesful ship design since the initial designing and commisioning of the Hyperion Class. Hundreds were built between the Earth-Minbari War to the Drahk War. The ship was popular with its crews and the public. But that didn't mean that improvements couldn't be made. The Alpha and Beta models were the most common, but enough Omega Gammas were built to make it realatively common. But there were gaps in the Omegas performance that needed addressing.


The really big rotating section was a favorite target of anyone engaging an Omega. Far too often, the rotating section took enough damage to cause the crew to stop the rotating or have the ship shear itself apart. The loss of artificial gravity usually meant the loss of efficiency for the crew trying to keep the Omega in the battle. The Mars and Alpha classes faired better in combat, due to there being more than two parts to the rotating section, but they were still awfully big and inviting targets. The Leviathon class battleship, however, had a rotating section that was known to withstand withering barrages from enemy vessels. Using a modified version of the Leviathon's rotating section, the first of the Psi class came off the line in mid-2262 with this new, streamlined rotating section.


On top of the new rotating section, new weapons emplacements were added. Still fully capable of embarking two squadorns of Thunderbolts, she was now also equipped with two breaching pods. Being related to the Omega Class, she inherited all the interceptor emplacements and eight of the twelve SPB emplacements (four forward and four aft of the rotating section). The heavy weapons, however were slightly more powerful. Even though the Warlock was entering full-scale production, EarthForce wanted something more powerful than the Omega, but easier and cheaper to build than the Warlock.


The Heavy weapons of the Psi are meant for ship-busting. Four forward HLCs make up the forward mounts usually found on the Omega. Mounted on the sides of the spine, forward the rotating section, were a pair of Nova LPA's. Just aft of the rotating section another four of these turests were mounted, pointing away from the ship. The ship inherited the Omega Betas aft weaponary as well.


(The initial inspiration for this ship came from Jeff Hiatt's B5 Gaming Page. In the minis section, he has some modified Omega Minis. The Psi is based on the Akron, while the Gamma is based on the Saladin, also located on the page.)

It certainly is interesting, and cool however, I didn't realise that it does seem to be an individual's own B5W project. What chances that leaves it in terms of being included in this mod are somewhere between slim and none I'm afraid.

There are an awful lot of creative people out there doing projects like this (I should know, I'm one of them) and all credit to them

lol how bout re-naming it a Whupass class? lol long story short someone named their Omega the EAS Whupass in a roleplay a while back
