Summoner Watch: VPView for Summoner

Posted by Orange:

Yesterday when I found out we were going to be posting the demo that night, I contact Heiko Herrmann of the Descent Network and told him about the games files looking to be in similar form (.VPP) as Volition's past games. Since he is author of the VPView program that works for Freespace 1 and 2, he "hacked" the code and has already put out a modified version of the program that will work with the Summoner Demo. This will allow you to listen to all the games sounds and music, view the effects, and edit the table configuration files.

Here's what HH had to say about it:
Please note that this is an early preview version. There are still some bugs left, especially with the internal image previewer, which will not show all images correct. Also note that you should only use it for Summoner Demo PC V1.0, and not for any other Summoner demo, OEM or full version. Those will be supported later. Finally, it might also be of note that .VPP support will not be added to VPVIEW32 V1.x.

So far I've played around with it by editing some of the games interface graphics, but I'm unsure as to where to place the extracted files (such as the data folders in Freespace) or if the demo is even modifible (which I doubt). Anyways, it's still fun to play around with the sound and music and see all the textures and effects and whatnot, so head on over to the Downloads Section and grab it!
