-- Shivan Debate: Do Shivans Have Installations? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=2665)

Remember the 'extra' video from Silent Threat? A Shivan leapt on a Thoth and tore its plates off - from outside. So they can at least sustain themselves for some length of time in vacuum. Plus, when the Terrans boarded the Shivan freigher they had to wear helmets and there was little gravity. All that shows is Shivans don't love gravity, which we know, and that they possibly breathe something different to us, if I'm being critical.

While i admit a lot of terran and vesudan ships also do not contain these features, their are some, especially in the older generations of multipourpose ships. also, their is at least one class in every type of small craft that incorperates the disign features neccessary to allow atmospheric manouvering and landing.

There is one thing you're forgetting about fighters and landing that's happened since the Great War: shields. What if the field shape of shields can be modified and manipulated to give fighters such as the Herc II 'wings' for atmospheric flight? In a similar but slightly odder vein, what if capships like the Orion have shield emitters for this role, but the frequency of weapons disrupts them, or they can only stop nitrogen and oxygen molecules penetrating the shield, etc etc?

Anyway...on topic, I think that the most compelling argument for Shivan installations is that Volition drew one, if you look in the concepts on the FS2 site. That's how I imagine a Shivan base - a space anthill.

This is a really good idea and makes the most sense out of anything anyone has ever said. Real wings are added weight and introduce incredible strain on an airframe. Unfortunately, to fly efficiently in an atmosphere, you need wings. Wings are stupidly complicated things, nothing like the paper airplanes we made as kids. With shields, you can actively modify the shape if the wings to suit your needs.

Genius

Actually I don't remember if that concept art of the "Shivan space city" actually had a Volition done caption on it.

I'll check the early shots, since what I remember was that fans assumed it was Shivan, it could possibly have been a Vasudan "space city."

Once again, if someone has the pic with the caption, you'll prove this wrong since my memory is *very* fuzzy on it.

Despite that, any major Shivan constructs in tBE should be more then satisfying

Good point. It was just my opinion that it always looked Shivan. Imagine having come across that in the nebula...wow.

I'm gald that your models will satisfy us. I'd be deeply suspicious if you told us that you'd be disappointing us at best.
