Should I use this as a springboard for a lecture on the disproval of Newtonian motion, the general theory of relativity, quantum mechanics, black holes, the big bang, superstrings, and 6 dimensional donuts?

I'm in the mood to talk about theoretical physics, but not if it means getting the thread closed.

Only if you're prepared for getting counter-lectures about a theory that seems to unify differing superstring models as simply special cases of a supersurface (the surface can wrap up, or roll, into a string...) and other interesting things, like the Big Rip.
Although I must confess I haven't been reading about these things and theoretical particle physics for a couple of years now, so I would need to read some books again to be of any use.

I'm in the mood to read, and comment if I can... Although it might steer too off-topic from fictional space ship's shield strength. Maybe a new topic somewhere else?

Why not digress even more? We went from how the Lucy's shields were being generated to how it it could possibly withstand the effects of the Capella nova to now theoretical science. I'd sure like to hear what some other people have seen and think compared to mine.
