just to say first that i haven't read the whole thread here

I am bit confused. When i was news hunting for HLP i came a cross an article. the article was listing top of the most selling space-sim games in US. Freespace sold over 147 000 copies and came on a fourth place FS2 came on the 5th place with over 87000 copies sold.

My question is if Freespace 2 did really sold that many copies?

Probably both of those numbers are low because usually the sources only count what they have a share in. So other distributors would not be counted. But yes...FreeSpace 2 sold that many...and Descent:FreeSpace sold that many as well. Its not bad....neither game was a complete flop. Mike Kulas said that they broke even on FreeSpace 2....and that was over a year ago. I feel that, if properly advertised and supported, another game would do well.

Something like 300,000 copies is a sucess...but someone correct me on that. I'm just guessing.

Red Faction sold over a million copies I think.

RF did well on PS2, not so well on PC.

Of course it should be a PC project. If it wasn't for PC, you couldn't play on multiplayer or make MODs, Missions and other stuff.

Consoles are only the waste of money. By the way, You should really visit the Hard Light Production forums and see some of the projects that people make there.

The reason for that is because the PS2 market has how many FPS shooters. I actually don't know if there ARE any other FPS shooters. And probably none that are as good as Red Faction.

With PC you've got bazillions of FPS games...huge diversity and competition. Its not as easy to sell on PC.

For some reason, PC games seem to get swept by the wayside except when its C&C, a Blizzard game, or its from the guys at id.

Um...Halflife i assure you is the king of FPS, even on the PS2, but that did come after RF, wasnt any competition really. Where as on the PC, you had Max Payne overshadowing it.

Halflife is on PS2...oh

Well then there's TWO good games on PS2 in the FPS genre worth your money. Still...thats compaired to what...like 10-15 in the last year on PC alone...not to mention the fact that I still play Unreal Tournament (TacOps) and some older games.

Yeah.. PS2 has a bunch of PC classic FPS ports now.. games that have been out for at least a year making their way to PS2. Volition beat everyone to the punch by releasing for PS2 first and later on PC. It ended up being a cash cow too.
