Well, if you've installed a custom campaign you can install FSO.
All you do is DL the launcher and the latest build and put it in your freespace2 folder. You can also put the media VP in there too. Then, just select it in the launcher, check the glow and spec boxes and run the game.

Command lines are the "-whatever" command that goes after the exe in the shortcut, or launch string.

i.e: C:\games\freespace2\fs_open.exe -glow -spec -fov.49

etc.

omg worst thing happened to me!!!
I formatted my HD a while ago and today i felt like playing some fs2. Much to my dismay, i thought i had backup up everything, lo and behold, FS2 was NOT. God!! ARRGG, it was the copy from underdogs, but now they took it off cuz violition is putting up 2k copies of it for their annaverasy and now there's no way i can shell out 50 bucks for this game, even if i had the cash, still 50 bucks for this outdated game, hell no. Even if it means not playing BWO still man, 50 bucks for that game is just nuts. If it was like 10 bucks ok, but 50!?

unless you can get soeone to put up ISO's of all 3 discs, there is no legal way for you to get this game for free.

I probably could... someday. But not right now. If you lived in Rockland county, or on the NY/Jersey border here, I'd burn you a copy...

Edit: Oh look. You're in Jersey... Coinky-dink. But I still doubt you're around here.

When I couldn't get my hands on FS2, a friend of mine pointed me to the HotU version, but I couldn't download it. I then proceeded to a certain P2P filesharing network whose name will not be mentioned, but its name has letters alternating between upper and lower case. I found a copy there that had some stuff that the HotU version didn't have, such as the in-game voice files. Later, when I was able to grab the HotU version, I deleted the... other one, and found that the HotU didn't have these. It did however, have the last cutscenes (from what I hear), but I instead re-grabbed the... other one, and used that... until a friend of mine let me borrow his original and I copied it. The rest is history.

Later!

thats odd i've never heard of AaZaK

Posted by Genoism on 03-15-2004 04:49 AM:

thats odd i have this feeling its something along the lines of Ka, but i can't remember the rest that sux, I think i screwed.
In anycase i did try searching that upper lower case place but after a good 30 min or so of searching its gone
Im so ticked off! I think i burned a copy somewhere on a cd a long time ago, but i think it was version 1.0. So if i tried to get a patch on it the patch would say some error about the file size not being the same, most probably because it was a no-cd version.

I do live in the NJ area Elizabeth to be more exact.
Maybe I can mail you over a few cd's with a self stamped padded envelope ?!!

well if you serch the upper and lower case place again using these words: flight simulator, you might find a file named: Flight Simulator 2002 wich is 212MB in size wich might by pure luck be a version of fs2 wich is missing only the brinfing voice-overs and the cutscenes, remember that the file is just a ramdom compilation of data and any recemblance to fs2 is pure luck

Posted by Genoism on 03-16-2004 07:32 PM:

how very intersting, thanks so much ill check into it. Hopefully my luck will run along the lines of monkeys randomly compiling shakespears works

As I recall, when I grabbed FS2 from said P2P service, I searched under "Freespace" and some files said "Freespace2" but had descriptions saying "Flight Simulator 2002". I decided I'd try to download the file which had the most sources, and as it turned out, it was FS2 after all! Perhaps the same is still true.

Later!

Heh yea I was hoping for such luck yet I didn't get any results, maybe I searched at a bad time? I've tried agian here and there over and over with little results.
I found two similair files that oddly were named flight sim 2002 like you said with a coincedental size like previously mentioned, but only one person had it and my p2p has been open for quite a few days.
Perhaps Snipes will let me send him some empty cd's

Oh I have plenty of blanks. The trick is trying to get the mail before my family. (They're paranoid about people online.)

It'd probably be easier and cheaper fr me just o mail it to you m'self. (I've sent Psycho 2 CD's already)
