But I guess that PPGs are so much better that military rather uses them...

I think the PPG:s problem is range. The plasma bolt likely loses heat quite quickly, and the containment field won't hold forever either. Of course inside ships or stations this doesn't matter, but long range ground warfare may be a different story.

And higher magazine capacity.

I don't have much to add to the debate but if any of you are really interested in the subject of ground combat in B5 then take a look at the AoG "Gropos" game. I haven't looked at many of the details but there is a lot and a lot of background stories/information too. It looks good but can I justify spending even more money on the B5 universe?

lol

where do you think I got the idea for my mod?

all tanks are based on theirs, with some modifications to make em look and work better in game.

Garibaldi said that (about bullets vs PPGs) in Grey 17 is Missing, season 3.

He specifically said "slugthrowers" (well, that's what Zack called it) were in use by private security but EarthForce in general went all-PPG.

It makes sense though... why have two seperate ammo supplies (e.g. bullets and PPG magazines) when you can have a single ammo supply? Saves money, more efficient, you know?

Also, slugthrowers may be more efficient in certain situations but not on B5. Slugs may penetrate the hull of the station or the reactors, etc. whereas PPGs simply have the energy dissipate when they hit bulkheads or walls.

Remember when a guy tried to kill the soon-to-be president Sheridan and the nosy teep saved him (Season 5).
Earlier the pre-mentioned guy tried to kill the pre-mentioned nosy teep by shooting trought the ceiling where the teepy was hiding in a airduckt. And when Garibaldi was escorting his ex wife and the other guy and went hiding in the guesswhat. The teeps who were chasing them shot trought the ceiling trying to nail them.
But when you see door being blast open by a PPG you never see one shot goming trought. They all they all dissipate. So on B5 walls and ceilings are cardboard and doors are steel.
Or maybe there is switch in the gun, "armor piercing" and "hollwpoint".

Penetrate the hull?Whar the hell do you want to shoot with??

An normal bullet doesn´t penetrate a thin wall. So they can´t penetrate the armored hull of B5 or the reactor.

By the way, I think it´s quite useless to discuss pro/cons of non-existing technologies in comparison to existing ones.

I agree with you about the reality of the situation but I am only quoting what was stated in the show. It sounds a little wishy washy but it's hard to argue against something that JMS has stated himself through the show.

The PPG does no negligable to the matalics of space ceaft and stations, walls doors ect. However it does generate a lot of heat at the impact point, thus sevral shots fired in the same place will burn a hole in thin surfaces, they are used to prevent accadental decompreshion of the ship. At least form what I have seen in the show and from my sorces I have deduced this explanation.

however I think the terrens would win any ground battles. Due to the fact that no other race has indroctranated there children in the metheds of war, through the use of entertainment. I speak of Video games, Duh, And find in comferting to know that if some hostile alien force attacks my home I will be able to repulse them by stealing there weapons after I behead one with my short sword. However the mimbari with there knolege of stelth, the cmeilon web, and gravaic drives could prove a hard opponint to defeat. flying tanks give me headakes
