More on topic, how are the demo voices comming along? I am guessing they're the last thing to be completed, and the site says everything else is finished.

And top of all he was right about Shivans...

In the original subject of the thread, I really think that a character-based plot is better.
Compare the Single-player of Quake 1 and Duke3D. It's not directly applicable, but most people agree that Duke3D, in which you had a good main character, was just plain better (Excluding multiplayer and graphics), and that was only 'cause of the main character's personality (and the strippers, I guess, if anyone can call a blob of pixels a stripper ).
I'm not saying no identifiable main character is bad, just taht it can be done better with a good main character.

By the way, BWO team, I hope you've found someone good to be the comic relief (Or as I refer to him, Mackie, the next generation) voice actor.

There IS a comic relief, right? Right?

Well, it works fine for me.

When the GTD Galetea was destroyed by the SD Lucifer, it was attacked continusly by fighters and bombers, well, i told it to be invulnerable until the lucifer arrived and told it to be vulnerable again and it got poverized by the Lucifers' beam cannons. lol

I ain't good at waiting until ship is at less then 5hp.

Yeah it works fine on largerships, but try it on a fighter.

It gets on way of Beam... End of that so called invulnerable-at-some-point fighter.

This only posesing thread maily to fighters and older cruisers.

So long as the main character doesn't annoy the hell out of me, I can handle it.....

Mallory is a kind of introverted character...he focuses alot on himself, but he doesn't really have much contact with his own emotions. He's got some skeletons in the closet....but you guys should like him.

There should be a number of sources of comic relief....we have a plain out sarcastic wingman (Mackie Mark 2 if you will) but we have some other interplay between characters that you *may* find amusing depending on your style of humor appreciation.

In the demo we also have a comic relief character...we like doing that type of character mixed with some others so it'll be there.

To go beyond the world of Freespace and yet remain in the Universe of Deep Space flight Sims look at the X-wing series. If you played the first two X-wing games, X-wing and TIE fighter, they were very impersonal, you didnt have a wingmate that had his own personality. And then, in X-wing Alliance they introduced you as Ace Azzameen, and gave you real wingmen and gae them personalities, and it worked so much better. If you think about it, a Squadron of fighters is a close knit group of people. A pilot and his backseater are a pair, and a pilot and his wingman are also a pair, because two people who know each others reactions are able to fight more effectively. So the BWO people should be congratulated for trying to bring that into the Freespace universe. Now lets all focus on something more important. Getting Volition to make a Freespace 3.

not THAT again!

This single topic has been discussed countless times. It won't happen. The two reasons are that Interplay owns the FreeSpace copyright, and Volition is working with THQ. Secondly, FreeSpace 2 sold like crap, so it wouldn't be commercially viable to make FreeSpace 3 (READ: publishers want to milk proven cash-cows).

Sweet! Hey could you imagine if they Mackie a cap ship to command That could provide alot of humour! *Note, don't take me to seriously on that.*

I find something wrong with a character-driven game where everything takes place in the cockpit. It doesn't work. It's trying to assign RPG qualities to a game with an engine that doesn't support it. It's definitely supposed to be impersonal.
