well erm, on Medium my fighters die in 2-3mins.
I don't see the point in playing on Medium on FS2.
you don't get any points for the objectives, just for killing ships.
Also, did you know that you can kill a GTCv on the first mission.
The GTCv Belacarius or something like that.
All you need to do is shoot it once and when the Psamtik destroys the Corvette, you get the kill.
Also, do you have the auto-matching speed on or off?
If your fighters dies in 2-3 minutes you need to take better care of them. The fact that some of us can do it without losing all our wingmen shows that it is possible.

well, how the hell do you make all your wingmen survive so much???
I kill the enemy quickly. The faster I kill them the more it evens up the odds.

i have just got up to the mission with the 2 cruisers.
on that mission, my shields were gone in 5 seconds....does it recharge in 5 seconds.!? nope!
I think the computer has unlimited Ammo and Weapon Energy.
Because i made a little mission with 2 Herc IIs.
both Armed with Subachs.....and i made myself invulnerable and played the mission on INSANE.
The Computer must have shot at me continusly for over an hour.....i just got bored and quit.
I even played a fair mission on Medium.
GTF Perseus vs GTF Herc II
Guns: Subach HL-7 Both ports
i don't know how, but the Herc II outmanuvered my fighter and blew me up within seconds despite my fighter supposedly being much more manuverable.
Explain that!

The campaign is easily winnable on Medium. I'm not sure that I would play on "insane" because I have other games I like to play and "insane" would eat too much of my time trying to figure out how to beat every mission. I play on "Hard."
With hard, I have to play it a few times to figure out exactly what you have to do. Sometimes you have to take out certain targets or subsystems first. Sometimes you have to engage something and make sure your wingmen enagage something else - but the campaign for me is quite playable at medium without being too easy. On one mission the first time through I was stuck on a mission for half a day. Couldn't tell you which one. I went to the 'net for help.
I find out a lot of times when I give up on a mission and go to the net for help, if I play it again I have no trouble. That's before anyone even bothers to respond to me. Strange...

well, i find it is boring if you are doing evasive manuevers every second of the mission.
It is alot more fun if you have a 50/50 chance......
I have a 5% chance of completing a mission on Medium or above.
Besides, completing the game on Medium or Hard doesn't get the promotions any quicker.
FreeSpace was better in that department..........you got points for each objective you do.....but on FreeSpace 2, you don't.....that REALLY disappointed me.

I would prefer the game to put promotion based on what you do not on how much points you get.

on Medium, Hard and INSANE, the AI has a BIG advantage against the player.

They'll be rolling and climbing and diving then suddenly banking to get behind their target or get out of its sights. You need to play online sometime, play a few coops and see what the other players do: see if they're cussing out the ais (or mission designers) or playing the mission. Then after that play a few TVTs and get your ass cooked, see if its right to sit still in a dogfight; you dodge for a reason.

Heh, if you think the FS1 conversion is tough, you're gonna have no chance at all at BWO.
(not that the BWO missions are overly difficult, it's just that I never really found the FS1 campaign to be too hard.)
[edit: Damn, I can't spell worth a crap lately]
