If I understand right, you played the game over LAN on Volitions computers in Volitions office, thats hardly a real-world-test.

The big issue is the mod-cheat thing like Bobboau says:

Other bugs concerned WinXP/DX8.1 compability, and "Your data doesn't match the data the game is using" bug, when trying to connect to a server.

Like I said, the big problems was/is that its to easy to cheat, and people on the RF-bb came up with lots of suggestion to remedy the situation, mainly making it easier for the host/server to monitor cheating. One problem is that you as host only can get the IP addresses of the players directly on the hosting machine, you cannot get the IP addresses remotely through the console (you need ip for kicking/banning). If the host is gaming himself on another comp (the dedicated server may be in another room/house/town) then he cant get the ip's, and he need those to kick/ban cheaters. It was suggested many times that....(this is a quote of Farslayer from a thread in the rfbb):

"[V] could provide us with one of the folowing methods of banning in an upcoming patch (crosses fingers)

Ban by player number.
each player is assigned a number as they join the server, the info command would show the players and their associated number. to ban a player remotely simply type rcon ban_# 12 and the player whose number is 12 is gone..

support for showing player IP's to users who are logged into rcon

this could be done, by allowing you to issue a rcon info request which would show the admin the info from the server including IP's , as opposed to the info command which would show the info for the local machine. you would now be able to see the players IP's so you could issue a rcon ban_ip <playerIP>

I don't think it would be terribly hard for them to add one of these methods to aid us in banning.. "

This was suggested several times, but there was no response. I could give more examples, but I stop here. My main argument, however, is not that Red Faction is buggy, but that Volition has not responeded and taken care of their customers the way we were used to back in the Freespace days. From my perspective this change happened at the same time as THQ took over, which made me belive they were related.

When the VBB went down, all the trolls left to bother someone else, and the vets returned for one last hurrah.

Sure, there weren't any proper topics as such, but it was a nicer place at the end.

Yeah, it would be cool to work on FS3.

I think it's cool that most of the FS1/2 team is still at Volition, and I also would insist that it be a PC project if I was in your place; it'd be nearly impossible to do Freespace on, say, a PS2 or Gamecube contoller.

Mind you, a 4d game would be quite an achievement

Bleh.. all Dave was talking about was the different ideas they come up with and would have liked to put in an FS3. He's a programmer.. remember that. Variable usage is quite common among him. This had nothing to do with dimensions that we commonly refer to as X, Y, and Z in 3D.

Hehe, Bullet time in space. That Dragon is being annoying, so you go into slow motion and take it out. You could do some really cool effects.

Wink

Or disabled...I really liked that in FS1...however what I didn't like was when I disabled it before the Cain got destroyed (and of course I would disable it in the proximity of the Cain), so the damn shockwave would kill the Dragon.....

Got time to press "replay"?

WHen you're piloting it. I still remember my mods where you could fly almost all shivan ships... oh man, the vectoring alone kicked ass. Let's see... X & Y & Z & Rz movement... i was in heaven.

too bad i never released it publicly... something about the weapon points locking up the game in the loadout menu...

Hey Brando, can you explain what you mean by vectoring? Do you mean like strafing or something?

And as for the weapon points, I remember that there was always a problem with that when a ship had more than two gun points or more than three missile points. If you know how, try consolidating the extra weapon points into the first two/three.
