At least it's easy to use for a normal user, and as most people run Windows in one form or another there is no transition required when using a new machine.

I've always found it strange that almost everyone that uses non-MS operating systems has a strictly anti-MS standpoint.

My guess is that all these other OS's have somekind of subliminal "hate Microsoft" screensaver or something -- it's the only way to explain it

Quite honestly I really don't think it matters what OS you use; after all, an OS is just a means to run other software, it alone is not (at least for me) the reason I have a computer.

Alot of them are attempting to justify the need to be rebellious about something. I wouldn't be surprised if most of them are angry teenagers who are unsure of themselves, upset with their state in life, and are looking for an outlet. Its not uncommon, its very common. For some, they turn to drinking and drugs as an escape, for some its working hard so they can prove to themselves something, and for some it involves in protesting against something.

I forget where, but someone phrased this all nicely into a neat sentence.

the hatred stems from us watching Bill Gates manipulate and abuse the generally computer population. You're little cattle to slaughter. Are you aware he just changed something in the XP EULA that says "if you have XP installed we're allowed to poke around your system" Don't beleive me? look here -> http://slashdot.org/articles/02/02/09/2345258.shtml?tid=109

We've watched Microsoft consistantly produce an inferior product and use their market share to keep it in control. Windows is not robust, stable, secure, or fast by any means of the word. I refuse to help Microsoft maintain it's monopoly by using, supporting, repairing or duplicating it's software.

Bill Gates abides by the same laws that everyone else does. Sooner or later, he (and the rest that abuse the system) will step over the line and we've already seen one anti-trust case with another one hot on its heels I believe. I still have faith in the justice of the western democracies. Sure they are corrupt, but my point of view says to me that it could be much much worse. As far as the history of western civiliazation goes (forgive me because I don't know many other histories in detail), anyone who spoke out against the ruling group (in this case MS ) would be silenced and tell hell with anything else. I'd rather Kazan be able to state his opinion and he can and the feds aren't showing up at his door because he dislikes MS.

I also wouldn't mind seeing MS broken down into a bunch of companies. One for making OS'es, one a publishing house maybe tied into X-Box, another for desktop software. That would make me pleased as punch.

It'll happen I think. Nothing stays the same and I think Microsoft has reached its pinnacle. When they fall, someone will hopefully pick up the pieces, but they will do it smartly....so that the advantages that Windows bestows (compatability and standards) are not lost.

Not to play devil's advocate, but how'd MS get that market share without producing a quality product in the first place? Thugs showing up at your door with MS-DOS 5 disks demanding you install them?
Hell no.

(As a reference to your stability/robust comments, I offer a counterexample. Windows 2000/XP - I've used both extensively and by the way MS can get into my computer ... yeah right. *cough* tweaks ... both are absurdly stable. I think, ever since I got my 2K box 100% functional (which was a HARDWARE problem, not software) and my XP box now ... I've had ... um .... zero blue screens. Ever. Tell me that's unstable.)

And as for them using their share to keep it in control, I can't argue with that. I can point out, however, that's the capitalist economical system. So don't get high and mighty while blaming MS if you're not going to blame every other company that does the same thing.
(Hint: Think of a company. They do it.)
Intel, nVidia? 3Dfx a few years ago? Those are just some tech company names that do it.

And look. Kazan hates Intel, hates nVidia. At least he's consistent about disliking corporate tactics. Gotta give him credit for that.

Second point: The vitrolic anti-MS, pro-Linux standpoint (Kazan, you have to admit you've been downright offensive in the past to people in your pro-Linux quest; although the post in this thread is quite good, although your VBB posts aren't ) actually hurts Linux as a viable OS. People get put off by getting flamed like mad for using an MS OS and don't go to Linux.

That's other food for thought. Can't get converts by insulting them and then expecting them to change, really ...

Whee!

I don't know about u guys ..But I've worked with Both Linux and Windows for many years now.
Maybe winodows become more stable witch I doubt, maybe XP is the product of the future...but to have an OS witch demand more and more hardware to work when only what it does change the Graphics a little bit..that is crazy..stability is not the Number of blue screen..is the days that passed with the system running(call it uptime),stability is when it work with a dubious hardware and work well, not excelent but it does do the work( I used a Redhat 7.1,on a 233 P1/64 Mb only problem I got is that when i need to compile some huge stuff it take some time if I also browse the web, had a Developer studio on)

On the other thing , for gamming I use a Win 98 withc I consider to be the best for my hardware. And is working.

So DUE to the fact that this topic deviated from the subject...TOPIC CLOSED.
