Anywho... howabout one that doesn't kill you, but knocks you far away from the atackee?
For a projectile cannon, download Cardinal Spear for FS1. 
As for an "Ion Cannon" wait for the SECRET! trust me it'll shut down their systems, rip their shields, and do a little hull damage to share the lovin'.

I was just thinking about weapons....and how fun it would be to get caught in the golgotha main beam
(did that name come from the derelict gorgon cannon?)

i tried flying intoa huge beam cannon and i just got knocked out before i got destroyed and that was this huge 8000 damage beam i created

it would fire 10-20 regular dumbfire rockets simoltanosly with a reload time of 2-3 seconds?

How about a missile that is 100% accurate but not as strong as the Harpoon so you can nail those pesky ships that have 1% hull. Then you wont have to spend much time trying to kill it.

If you really want them, edit the tbl file when you get the campaign, and use the cheats to change your guns...

i just afew minutes ago created a great weapon its kinda replacement for flak more than beams since i doesn't rip through you sheilds but it makes closing with a ship difficult - had a fenris cruiser loaded out and made it a difficult target, well frustraiting anyway. its just a really cool pcx file and a normal laser doing not a huge amount of damage but with a really long range and firely rapidly. i call it the Starburst Cannon. it look really cool when it open up on you. if anyone wants it i'll happily send it

I suppose people have heard that the freespace 2 code is becoming open source.

You can improve the wingman AI for one thing. 
well, by doing that you would prob improve enemy AI too...
but you could change it in the tbl file anyway... 
How about an anti-capship Inferno? Target and lock on to a Ravana, fire the missile and detonate it 600-1000m away from the ship. It releases 5-10 Trebuchets that home in on the nearest turrets. To balance things out you could have a max payload per ship of 2 or so, and limit it to be mountable on fighters only (to prevent any Alpha1-all-in-one solutions to taking down cap-ships). The main question is if it's possible to have it auto-home in on turrets...
