$50 for a rerelease of a four-year-old game that doesn't even have anything new added? Give me a break. And the really annoying thing is it's better than any deal you can get off ebay, so they're likely to sell, thus rewarding really sickeningly capitalistic behavior.

$30 I might be able to see, but it's still pushing it. Computer stuff depreciates fast, but I guess no one ever told Interplay.

I think they're simply exploiting the fanbase rather than testing any waters, but that's just me.

selling the FS2 for 50 $ ? Man that`s madness! I see no rational reason for such a policy.
here in Poland Freespace can still be bought, yet the Freespace 2 is unreachable. Well it`s great I`ve my FS 2

I know it may sound unfair but realy its not all that bad i mean the game is kinda rare now and people so desperatly want it they will pay anything for it, so technically its not unreasonable but i can see where your coming from.

How is that not unreasonable? We're saying it's a ****ty thing to do, not that people won't fork over the money.

well they have to run the machines and presses like it was a new game, think of it this way they could be printing this or one of there other contemporary games :ha:.

Companies reprint games this old all the time with the manual on the disk and charge something like ten bucks. So I have a hard time buying it's a print run issue.

then don't buy it

problem solved

That dosen't change the fact that this whole deal could or could not be one final kick in the balls the the Freespace comunity.

But hey, whatever.

good point

i sure as heck hope it's not the last stab in the heart for us, i highly doubt it though. If its the last stab in the heart for Us it'll be a nice stab in the heart for Interplay or who ever bought interplay or who ever is makin the 2000 copies of the game.

I need to follow my information better!

*reats history books about interplay*

It's not that simple though. The fact that Interplay have re-released such a limited run of the game means that we'll get very new mebers to the community from it and also means that the HotU version had to be taken down.

So far I'm leaning towards thinking that this re-release is actually bad for the community. I really hope I'm proved wrong.

hmm, it can have its ups and downs you could say. We may get more people back in the forums which is a plus but, I'm startin to think the price is a bit much. Ah well, When is the game being re released again? Aprox date?

Posted by hayabusa on 02-22-2004 02:14 AM:

ups and down, sure. But for me it`s quite, uh, original to sell a 4 year old game for 50 $ just as if it was brand new. I know FS 2 may quite be worth that money and hardly any good spacesim emerged after the game, but it doesn`t look nice and it won`t bring many new folks here.
Wel here it`s common older games are sold for 5-15 $ just if they were sold for 35-40 $ when they`ve had appeared.

Why is this news on every possible place (summoner, red faction, etc...) on the main site?

Well if you find anything else interesting to talk about anymore let us know cause not much goes on here anymore. And the fact that there is a slightest chacne for a FS3 though unlikely would be big news

evening all, my copy has just been delivered, i just need to wait a while longer for it to be shipped from the US to the UK. The box was huge and full of packaging (so my sister said) so at least they are taking care of it.
One of the other guys mentioned this being a final kick in the ribs to save a company losing money, while it might be true i some how doubt $100,000 would make much of a dent, in fact once you put all the costs of boxing it up again, it wouldnt even be that much.

My self and a number of others have been going over why they would do this, and there is only a few reasons that make any sence.
1 We got 6000 CD's and a whole bunch of other bits just kicking around and those suckers would believe anything so we may as well sell it off at full price to finish it off once and for all.

2 we got all this stuff kicking about and still after so many years peeps are still intrested, so why not see how it sells, then we can think about..... thinking of making a third

3 theres alot of peeps that would like a third still, so lets fire off a test run and see if the market is there to make a third, cost us a bit (asuming my big box isnt empty except three cd's in a paper bag) but we'll make it back in a few sales if it goes arse up. if it sells well, then let the development begin!

we couldnt think of any more that really had some cred to them or at there simplest fell in to one of the above, so i guess one of the reasons above is something like what they are doing! please feel free to add but at the mo......."2 out of 3 aint bad"

I hope you are right about those possibilites or at least the later of them. Nyhow all we can do is wait till something happens.
