-- Colossus Plan? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=8465)

Even so, it did seem kinda questionable that during the colossus' first encounter with Satanas they only deployed one wing(a terrible wing may i add) of bombers to protect it against an endless onsluaght of shivan fighters. Did they expect anyone to survive?

During that mission i think i went throgh at least 30 guys to get the job done, and finish with the cannons. after i took out one, i ran my arse back to the colossus and let the flak take over.

Ps. Who else has a phobia of sitting outside jump nodes?

Well, you do have a finite number of fighters, on a finite number of fighter carrying ships, to cover a virtually infinite area of space.

With a ship like the Colossus - well able to fend for itself (in principle) - it's not entirely inconceivable that 90% of the operational fighters would have been sent to assist other ships (cruiser / corvette groups), or to escort convoys (especially during the evac of Capella), or to harass enemy ships.

Maybe all the fighters in the Colossus had been used to engage the Sathanas' own complement? Or maybe the Shivan advance has simply stretched the Colossus' resources to breaking point.

The Colossus had plenty of fighters in it's bays. Too bad it's tiny hangar opening was blocked by rubble at that time. You'd think that since the Colossus was holding down the most important lot, they'd send more fighters and bombers to support it or at least give Alpha good coordinates for once.

It also doesn't help that the Colossus doesn't even bother to fire back at the Sathanas that jumped in.

Okay, so I got mixed up. Anyway, if you name a ship after a statue, you get a battleship sized statue.

Oh, yeah - look in the original ships.tbl. If you put the weapons listed under (;these statements are old) into their appropriate slots, the Colossus suddenly becomes almost useful in a firefight.

Incidentally, if the Colossus was placed broadside to bear it's guns against a Sathanas that's facing the Colossus directly so that both vessels can bring their maximum firepower to bear, which ship would come out the victor (assuming both were beams-freed)?

Sath.

the Col has only 3 LRBGreens facing the Sath on the broadside and thats as much as it could ever get. The sath has 4 BFReds. If they were placed so that each had maximum fire power, there'd still be no way in hell the Col would win. Basically if the Col gets in an Arc of at least two of those BFReds, its toast unless it gets out.

I set up a two on one once. (Two Colossi, one Sathanas) the port one lasted 52 seconds, the starboard - 1 minute 48.

The Sathanas hit 82% hull.

And that was their best perfomance out of 20 tries.

Sathanas, anything in its way is space dust, but get on it's tail and a corvette can take it out.

So the Colossus can never handle a Sathanas at full power eh? Bah, why couldn't they put another LRBGreen near the engine block? I say remove some space for those useless fighters and add more beams.

Actually no, Corvette cant kill Sathanas from rear, Sathanas has one rear beam to deal smaller ships.

I doubt Sathanas class was never meant to be on battle ship, more likely it was desing for Supernova attack, it has defence means but its not a warship.
