Yes....but everyone wants to download a several hundred meg file to watch with their favorite campaign.

Thats impractical and relies on Volition having the time to do it. The offer is still there as far as I know....but instead of several hundred megs...how about higher quality and in the space of 20mb. Thats what DivX can offer us and its open source as far as I know (every geeks dream) so its available to us to use.

Same old avi, but smaller filesize in slightly better quality over conventional divx. Xvid is also commercial product, while xvid is 100% free.

I'd say anything dealing with BWO would be essentially personal use. We're not selling anything, we're not really promoting anything. Its just a means to an end. There are other formats too...so its just a matter of whats supported.
