Actually I don't believe the whole fighters in a WhiteStar stuff.
Only in ONE episode we saw fighters launching from a WhiteStar. For this episode WhiteStar's size was increased by 200 meters.
WhiteStar is about 270 meters long, houses already one transport. There is not necessarily room for four fighters.
Conclusion: It is possible that there are few larger WhiteStars for Ranger training purposes which are also capable of carrying a number of fighters. Another possibility is that all WhiteStars are equipped with a shrinker and all Nials are in pocket size in the hangar waiting for launch. Third possibility is that WhiteStars itself are capable of shrinking and swelling.
(No, I wasn't serious)
Because WhiteStars is the fastest known vessel and it's maneuverability as on par with fighters, increased mass would bring these traits down significantly.

Try B5 Wars
Has anyone here played B5 Wars, at all? I found that this game (by Agents of Gaming, now deceased, unfortunately
) was very good at assessing the capital ship vs fighter (or vice versa) balance. Some general things that I learned are:
Nials are tough! At range, a flight of 6 fighters could seriously hurt a Primus class battleship. (This was mainly because the Primus anti fighter weapons are not good at range, and also because on Minbari Jammers)
At short range, however, the Nials inevitably got panned.
Flight of furies vs a flight of nials: Nials always scored more kills.
Thunderbolts: Capable of even hurting first ones. (The ion cannon is lovely)
Centauri fighters: Mostly pants. (But then, Centauri ships are so cheap in the game that they can replace a few flights of fighters with a Vorchan, which is much more dangerous!)
White Stars: Great anti-fighter ship.
However, I haven't had the chance to re-create any B5W scenarios with TBP Release, so I don't know how TBP is balanced.

B5W is not totally balanced in the first place (in terms of "realism" anyway) - in the show no other ship could even touch the First Ones, let alone Thunderbolts. I think they have a great game with the general comparisons right but in terms of actual combat ability there had to be some changes to make the game playable. I think that in general the fighters are a little overpowered in B5W, no way are 24 Starfuries equivalent to a Sharlin - you only have to see the Battle of the Line scenes to realise that. I would say that their armaments and characteristics are not too far off the show but with everything skewed a tad toward the middle ground in terms of combat ability.

thunderbolts can take out vorlon fighters quite easily and i would assume that it could do the same to the shadow fighters aswell. But as for the firstones capital ships, i doubt it.

Thunderbolts are pretty powerful, its all about the rapid fire cannon, its not as powerful as the Nial's beams...but toss enough energy at something and it will come apart one way or another.

what it takes to a ship being capable of carrying 10 fighters 10000000000000000000 meters??
Europes carriers are smaller than that and can carry up to 40 fighters or more (at leats the new french ones will).

Perhaps minbari fighters have a way to reduce their size for parking. I know that we can do it. European carriers are perhaps smaller, but you can store you're planes on almost the whole deck of the ship. Not to mention the hangars below. Remember that a whitestar was not designed to be a carrier.
