I tried them with FS2 once and they didn't make a shred of difference. Maybe when I get a better video card (I'm currently using a Riva TNT) they'll work...

And if you still need a file to enable them (on FS1 at least, I didn't bother making one for FS2 because of the above problem) I have one: http://www.westnet.com.au/gweber/FSHacks.zip

Just download it, unzip it and then double-click the .reg file. It will ask you if you want to merge the file into the registry. Click 'Yes.'

Freespace 1 was released on DVD-ROM as well as CD-ROM, apparently. I've never seen the DVD-ROM edition of FS1, but as you can tell from this thread, they took the extra space and included a few extras, e.g. high-resolution artwork.

I think the DVD version was an OEM version. You couldn`t buy it in the shops you had to buy a computer or DVD drive or something that it came with.
