Hmm... I wonder when people starts realizing that graphics ain't everything what matters. It's the content.

Look at System Shock 1 these days. Looks like turd but I still play it because:

1) It's fun
2) It's addictive
3) It's far more interesting than most games these days
4) Made by gamers for gamers.

The same thing applies to Deus Ex (if we take one quite new game), Duke Nukem 3D, X-Wing/Tie-Fighter etc.

And when taking notice that B5:ItF is now... what? 4 years old? Back then it looked fabulous, nowadays the technology has again moved forward. We are used to see delights like Pixel Shaders, Curved Surfaces, Bump-maps etc.

What ItF contained was a living universe. You could just decide that, hey I want to go to Centauri to blow some Vorchans and you could do that but it had some dire consequences.

If B5:ItF would be updated to suffice these days graphical elements. I'd say that we'd be dropping our jaws off and when combining that to new Franke's score and video clips featuring the cast of Babylon 5. It would have been a game to live up to.

And for all you MACers out there: Marathon, Marathon 2urandal, Marathon Infinity, Marathon EVIL.

Bad ass games. Graphics are **** but they are among the BEST games like that you can buy. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the marathon games were made by Bungie software, you know, the Halo people. Halo is actualy somewhat of an extension of Marathon. So you can take a guess at the quality of the games.

Actually, most Marathon fans consider Marathon 2 to be better than Halo. Consider that

Way cool games. I suggest that anyone with a Mac gets them. If you don't have a Mac, You can't even begin to comprehend what you're missing.

And don't forgett, there would have been a thing in ITF wich is as far as I know in no other game (maybe in Independence War 2).

The flight model!
In other games you maybe have side thrusters (X-Tension) or you can deactivate your engines to stay flying in one direction and turn the ship (Tachion).
But in no game I know you can make manuevers anywhere near like B5.
and Starfury is hunted by an enemy and flys forward.....then it starts 90 degree upwards, while turning the 'Furys nose "down" (where is this direction in Space ) and kils the surprised enemy with a salvo from above!
I think even with a master of sourcecode editing, its impossible to do that in FS2

-Norbert- that kind of flight model could be made by editing source code, but AI would have to be edited too..

If you change the flight model - you have to change how the AI works.

Actually, I'm sure there are some people working on the Newtonian Flight Model for Freespace 2 you are talking about. If you download the FS2 code, the programmer even invites you to add Newtonian physics into it.

And I've Found Her! by Space Dream Factory (http://ifh.firstones.com) will have that flightmodel. You just have to wait a month or two to taste it.

IMHO, what we lost with ITF's cancellation was its sustainable universe (sp?). That is, you could jump out B5's jump gate, go to Minbar, then go to Earth, then...that is, the degree of freedom ITF had is hard to achieve even today, and few games have that.

Flame me if you want, but I believe that that cancellation did more good than harm. That is, besides the small wait till free mods and games started to appear.

Actually if there would of been B5:ITF there would of been a higher chance for another B5 game.

THE B5 FLIGHT MODEL IS POSSIBLE IN FS2?!?!?
WuHOOOOOOOOOOOO
Even the thing with the vertical and horizontal thrusters?
If yes (and you find the time to do it) than I suggest to lay them on the Num-Pad.
But don't make the flight model unless the rest of the TBP is finished please. Even with the "normal" flightmodel TBP is GREEEAAAATTTTT!!!!!

And, if you inplement Newtonian flightmodel, don't make it too realistic.
I played the I-War 2 Demo and thats too realistic to be fun. Sad, because its a good game .
You should easily fly like in the TV. They used the thrusters only for rolling and "spezial manouvers" if im remembering right. And of course for slowing down .
