Even JMS admits that infection was the worst episode ever made. In fact he even goes so far as to wish it was never made.
It was an attempt to make B5 more trekish (cause the network execs insisted) and was also the first episode writen by JMS (apart from The Gathering) and he was still getting used to the characters.
However at the time I didn`t know all that. I just thought the rest of the series was equally bad so I didn`t bother watching it.

Despite how poor Infrction was it was written mainly to provide an introduction to organic technology in the context of a "Trekky" episode. However bad the story was it definitely explained organic tech so explanations later in the series were not required. For me the worst episode was "Grey 17 is Missing" which was poor and frankly unnecessary.

JMS has produced only a few poor episodes and Series One kicks it all off very nicely. I always like to think of it in the context that it sets up the rest of the B5 story, not just on its own like you can Series Four.

While Grey 17 was poor the side story with Marcus was pretty good. While Infection was pretty poor throughout.
