both diminish points, and don't record your bonus points, but it wouldn't make any difference if you can turn off cheats in fs2, because cheats don't change your score (but command might be wondering why i keep coming back with bfreds
)

for freaking sake!!!
on XWA, setting the unlimited weapons on will NOT effect your score.

Jamiek, if you're really that bad a pilot, have you ever considered playing the missions you can't beat over and over again without cheats until you -do- beat them? Its the best way to get better. Using cheats the way you do is simply the easy way out and takes away from the game by taking away the challenge.
EDIT: And if you find the ported verson of FS1 too difficult, dont bother playing my 158th campaign because it will be designed for exit level players of FS2. Also, promotions are done on a point basis for a reason, because in real life the military doesn't promote incompetent personnel and you dont get paid for doing nothing.

but in FreeSpace 2, you don't get points for the objectives....
that really put me off because you will need to play it on INSANE to get promoted....but still need to do the campaign like 2 times or something.
i have tried, but it is just unfair.
on Medium or above, the AI is constantly shooting you and even if the ship is way slower then your ship they still manage to stay 250m away from you shooting with virtually unlimited weapons.
It would be more fun if the different difficulties only made the AI more hostile........but it also makes your weapons drain faster and recharge slower and your afterburners burn quicker and recharge slow.....that is just not fair.
So, i just play it on Very Easy since it is more fun.....i play for fun, NOT for points......not like most people.
I once tried to play FS2 on Medium, on the mission where you are too far away to stop the NTF Iceni and the two NTF cruisers jump in, well from the very second the enemy fighters jumped in, there was never a single second where i wasn't being hit by weapons.
Also by then, my wingmen are dead and i am on my own, which takes the fun away.
As for a challenge, i like it 50/50 chance......NOT a 90/10 chance.
10 for me and 90 for AI.

now that was ****ing rude!!!
i play for fun!
I would prefer the game to put promotion based on what you do not on how much points you get.
try playing on INSANE and say it is fair!!!
on Medium, Hard and INSANE, the AI has a BIG advantage against the player.

Hell, I can easily beat the campaign on Medium! You have to be a resourceful little Alpha 1 to be all you can be. On the mission where you're chasing the Iceni, one of the first, two cruisers jump out, Command tells you to hang in there and take out the fighters. What do I do? I dive bomb the damned cruisers while my wingmen take care of the fighters!
The Psamtik comes out probably wondering where the hell the cruisers they were supposed to destroy

Want to know what happened to Bosch? Where did the shivans go? Why they blew up Capella? Well tough luck, I'm not telling.

well erm, on Medium my fighters die in 2-3mins.
I don't see the point in playing on Medium on FS2.
you don't get any points for the objectives, just for killing ships.
Also, did you know that you can kill a GTCv on the first mission.
The GTCv Belacarius or something like that.
All you need to do is shoot it once and when the Psamtik destroys the Corvette, you get the kill.
Also, do you have the auto-matching speed on or off?
