The VBB board didnt really do anything, it decended into a hive of villany and trolls. Having everything here is better for everyone. What surprised me was when the VBB went down, people started talking of open source and making a new engines etc.

Red Faction wasn't really that buggy. I have no idea what you guys are talking about. When the 4 of us from VWatch visited, we played for a couple hours of straight Red Faction and while there was one kind of annoying glitch the game otherwise worked perfectly. I don't remember any of us having any troubles a'tall. And that was a huge multiplayer game in the offices going on.

Now, since Red Faction seemed to NEVER be in the stores up here I'm going to have to order online. Once I get a job and once I get some money (its bloody impossible to get jobs around here - there's nothing). So I don't know what the final is like, but I doubt its very buggy. So what you guys are complaining about...I HAVE NO IDEA.

The MOD thing does sound annoying and I hope its properly fixed. But thats one problem.

You can always get a game where i live, at one time there was a EB store and a GAME store only a few metres apart. The EB one shut down because GAME are owned by them and being buggy doesnt mean its bad, just look at Hidden and Dangerous.

If you only played RF for a couple of hours total, and a beta at that, I'm sure you dont know what I'm talking about.

Posted by Orange on 04-12-2002 12:53 AM:

I own both the PC and PS2 versions of RF, had played several pre-release versions, and have played through the game itself many a times. Direct the question towards me. BTW.. the bugs aren't that numersome.. they only seem large because of the ability to cheat in multiplayer. It always amazes me though since people have always cheated in FS2 multiplayer and not nearly this many people have ever complained. People cheat in every game that there is. Hell, look at Counter-Strike.

Absolutely. In fact, you'd be surprised how many times you'll hear this conversation (or some variant) come up at lunch :

"Man, it would be really cool to work on FS3"

"Yeah, no kidding. We could do X, Y, Z, W, ......"

Almost everyone who worked on FS1/2 is still here and a good % of them had FS1/2 as their first project ever. I'd choose working on FS3 over almost any other project that might come up, but I'd insist that it be a PC project

Hmm
Ok, one BIG question i'd like to have an answer (last one, don't worry), no, it's not what is the plot of FS3, but, actually, do you even KNOW what it would have been?

Also, would you mind checking my forum ( http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=25 ) and website ( http://www.3dactionplanet.com/hlp/hosted/ott/ ) and tell me what you think of what I've done so far ( and be honest, I'm not interested in fake comments meant not to hurt -hargh, sometimes my English is terrible ).
Ok, that's all for me, I won't bother you anymore

dave, I've been meaning to say this for a long time... I have the highest respect for you and Volition. For someone that gets bored with a game after a few days, I've been attached to Freespace since I bought it early in 2000. Even with Descent, and RF, I never am able to stop playing them.

You all there have an incredible imagination and created an incredible space sim and universe in which a great community was made from. Even now, 3 years after it's release, FS2 still amazes me.

I want to say I'm sorry for all the spats we've had in the past, a lot of times I was way out of bounds and was completely unfair to you and Volition.

thanks for everything.

*whew*

got that off my chest...

Really the same goes out for me. My only regret is that I wasn't here when the whole thing began. Internet was a louzy *censored* before in my country, even though I did buy FS as soon as it came out.

Btw, one more thing the FreeSpace helped me with. My essays for school . It furthened my language and I got an A from that essay just for using some parts of those monologues (which I know all by heart of course).

Btw, I always wanted to ask, where does "Baranec" come from? I saw in your "description" that you are from Long Island, however the surname really sounds like it is from my country

Still doesn't tell me what you ARE talking about. And a couple of hours on a beta version (which is theoretically not yet ready for release or anywhere near) should reveal if the game is unstable and buggy or not.

If its a single player trigger then yeah, that would be something I'd miss.

I have never had a problem with either Red Faction PC or PS2, and I have played so many countless hours that it is actually impressive on Volitions part in my opinion, and the PC version I was playing on a pretty crappy computer. The cheaters are in every game. I will say that Red Faction had a lot of cheaters but thats not Volition's fault.

Posted by Alphakiller on 04-12-2002 02:14 AM:

I'd say, proportionally, RF has a lot less cheaters than Counter-Strike. Geez, CS cheaters are the lowest of the low.

And FS2 had some lame cheaters too. I'm not so hot on spawn camping in FFA games, but I guess that's not "cheating" per se...

The cheating bug,
Anyone is able to make some supar mod were they can fly and hyper rail and **** like that and run rapped in any server they feel like, it took V a month to make the 1.2 patch, and they missed the UI.tbl, I don't understand how V refuses to address this problem, I really really really want to keep the faith, but this sort of thing just makes me think THQ has sucked the life out of V, If you make a patch that fixes just this one bug I'm sure you'll have at least half the people that are swearing they will set fire the V HQ turn around and praise you once again,
A map pack couldn't hurt ether
Or maybe have all new maps available every few days\weeks\months on the V site,
Have them downloadable by the updater,
Of coarse ideally I'd like an auto-downloader but I know I don't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting that

well that cleared up a few thoughts i was having about THQ's influence on Volition's work. I still think Volition is developing for the console now because THQ was mainstream in the console gaming area, but that's just me... HEY! you cant beat free donuts!

Well Volition doesn't have the manpower for that... but ohh we do

What would be good, is being given the authorization to do mission packs for the autoupdater based on the best of the Archives here. (good balance, graphics, and pacing that meets or exceeds Volition quality)

Now asking for "patch authorization" is definately not going to happen though, but I think that lobbying for the ability to do up semi-official mission packs is possible.

i guess this isnt the best time to ask for an RF frenzy?

[edit]
Another thing, you said THQ was nice to you guys money wise... get one of the higher bowflex models... you'll love it. Get it setup in the offices somewhere
