Actually, both of you are right.
If you mix light, you get white...
But if you mix paint (all colours) you get black...

at least in an ideal world.. normally it comes out as a dark mud colour.. that's why printers use CYMK.

NCT, therein lies the difference between the colors of direct light, and refleced light.

Take the primary colors for instance;

With crayons, or paint, the primaries are red yellow blue, and when mixed make black. This has to do with the wavelengths of light these colors reflect.

With beams of light (your computer monitor, for instance,) the primaries become red green blue. The result of mixing these is white, because a combination in wavelengths of red, green, and blue, will make white.

Let's say NASA scientists say the galaxy appears green due to the presence of so many yellow and blue stars.

takeing this into account the scientists could just THINK there are no green stars as they figre they are just seeing the a yellow or blue star "interfering" with the lite coming from another star of yellow or blue and have therefore seen green stars they just don't know it.
