HL mod = buried under Counterstrike. Moving on. 
Renegade mod = starting over and I don't know how mod-friendly the engine is.
So from a fan's point of view...sticking with the RF engine = win.

Half-Life is a definite no-no for me. Surem HL is a great game, but it is much too old.
