aha the quinisential :

Bosch takes over the shivans and is super 1337 king hax0r on sathanas takes 0v3r 34rth!

Posted by IceFire on 02-12-2001 10:52 PM:

That one annoyed me most. I can see Bosch coming back as a sort of communications coduit, but that would sort of be cliche...so I was more thinking that he probably left something behind before the Shivans dissected him

So one can't dispose of the idea of a shivan/human Hybrid. As the old addage goes "know you enemy" this is purely theoretical of course.
an sort of off-topic idea of a redfaction/freespace engine hybrid would be pretty decent

What you mean that you would be able to blow a hole through a destroyer and fly through it.

Posted by Turnsky on 02-13-2001 11:50 AM:

Exactly
realistic damage for all ships including the odd crew member floating about sort of like interstellar roadkill i'd like to hope that the next freespace has this sort of damage model. you know like seeing an orion get the front end get blown off and still keep going although seriously damaged.

Posted by IceFire on 02-13-2001 09:38 PM:

Bosch's core philosophy is that the Shivans are the race that the Terrans should make an alliance with rather than the Vasudans.

What I don't think Bosch counted on was the Shivans sheer power (he couldn't even have known about the Sathanas fleet). On the other hand, maybe the Shivans staged the entire event.

Posted by Turnsky on 02-13-2001 11:01 PM:

Bosch and his officers were probably taken to the core planet of the shivan held systems (possibly thier homeworld) and possibly experimented on there. But, like icefire said.......... who knows

Posted by Epock on 02-14-2001 12:30 AM:

I think they took bosch to the Shivan queen and she forced him to mate with her?
Lucky Bosch ehh?
Hehehe

Admiral Bosch "No no no.............! not the anal probe!"
(Is that too rude?)
Or hes a Comedian at a snazy Shivan bar.

I agree with Icefire here tho, its a bit of a bad position for the story, he could potentialy make things get stupid in Fs3.
Fs3 stop dening it, we KNOW it will happen!

No, im sure that Jason Scott, the writer of the FreeSpace 2 story and the man behind Summoners story has well in hand what is supposed to happen in FreeSpace 3. Judging by his work in FreeSpace 2, he won't make it anything near the stupidity that has been suggested on the VWBB and the VBB in relation to the ending of FreeSpace 2.

I think a few people are starting to get the point that the story for FreeSpace, although starting out similar to many other science fiction related stories, is not anywhere near as cliche as some of the other things we've seen and read. Since most people are exposed to bad science fiction in the movie theater, they really haven't seen what happens when its good.

Examples of good science fiction on TV and in movies:

- StarTrek - the franchise that is responsible for the popularizing of sci-fi, regardless of if you like the current series or not, its classic sci-fi and sci-fi values

- Babylon 5 - JMS is probably the best writer I have ever experienced on TV, truly awesome literary value is in B5

- Earth Final Conflict - a great story, some characters have come and gone, once again great ideas

There are of course alot more and some have started out great and fallen, and some have started out at the bottom and climbed the ranks.

Anyways, I'll conclude my rant for now.

Overall, in FS3 we'll find out what we actually knew all along and most people will feel extremely stupified. (many of the things FS1 fan fiction tackled with were made into simpler, more understandable but identical ideas in FS2's backstory)

Yeah but remember guys, it wasn't only Bosch that was captured. High officials in the Iceni went with him as well. So who knows.......

They were?

Posted by CODEDOG ND on 02-24-2001 11:36 PM:

I've always thought of the Shivans as the Borg kinda. What if Bosch and his Officers were killed and expertimented on, and made a new type of Shivan Warrior. Maybe they thought that they could make a better fighter pilot out of a Human combined with the Shivan technology. If you haven't noticed you do kill a lot of Shivans before they kill your wingmen. If it weren't for there mass numbers and superior weapons the Shivans would be like fighting Iraq.

What? I'm not crazy! But the rest of you are!

Anyone seen Virus? (yes, *THAT* tack Jamie Lee Curtis movie)

i think the bit where Donald Sutherland is turned into that robot was cool... in a sick kind of way

anyone noticed how Donald Sutherland can look a dead ringer for Aken (from that holo-pic of Bosch anyway)

Mind you, a shivan/human hybrid would look like a shivan except perhaps the fact it's smaller (average human height 6" 5') roughly insectoid in appearance probably even more faster than their larger counterparts.

i'd love to be a shivan hybrid...maybe even a junior shivan member....mmm...junior

i think i'm obsessing about it

seriously though.......(feel free to break me heart here)....is there a chance Fs3 would come out...i mean c'mon...i'm the kinda person a video game company drools over: lots of money (relatives&holidays=big bucks), i have no social life (I AM...DANGEROUSLY BORING!!), and i've used my computer so much i'm getting a tan from it.....

Posted by bob_the_humble_freespacer on 03-01-2001 04:22 PM:

Fortunately, I don't need to be shivan to have large counterparts, if you catch my drift...
