honestly I like Canada, If the US military starts the draft for some reason, I'm moveing there.

I was here then I wasn't, now I'm dead

I'll hide in one of bobbaou's boxes, cause I hate the draft.

Posted by Snipes on 04-03-2001 10:09 PM:

I actually like Canada...

It's better there...

The life expectancy rates are higher, and the cities are less polluted. Plus, my dollar is worth 40x more than yours, so I will start off richer, then have my money dwindle to nothing...

In which case I would be a poor wannabe cannuck...

Just say eh alot

Oh and free healthcare....at least right now.

Posted by Charger on 04-04-2001 04:00 AM:

God, have i been off the continent that long!?! when i left last december, a paperback book still cost like two more canadian dolors than american dollars.

besides, it doesn't matter if they start the draft, im already in

Posted by IceFire on 04-04-2001 02:09 PM:

Don't let the price on the back of books fool you. Its really not that much more expensive.

Things are actually cheaper here when you do conversion back to American.

Posted by Charger on 04-05-2001 03:32 AM:

yeah, but what about that sales tax you people got up ther!?! when i was in Nova Scotia they had it at something like 17%, and people kept telling me how it was higher in other places, like that made it any better!

Posted by Snipes on 04-05-2001 08:53 PM:

I heard that Canadians make fun of New Foundlanders alot.

Or atleast that's what my parents told me, because they have Canadian cousins, and when they visited them, they kept making fun of the newffy cousin who was also visiting.

Posted by IceFire on 04-05-2001 09:32 PM:

I think its pretty much the highest in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Ontario is 15%. The kicker is the GST which was added ontop of the sales tax.

Stuff is still cheaper when doing the conversion.

Canadians do make fun of newfies, but apparently they were the ones who came up with the jokes about newfies so thats the deal.

Posted by Charger on 04-06-2001 05:04 AM:

becuase they they have one of the most odd accents i have ever come across. they also pronounce things in a decidedly odd way.

take the word newfundland for instance.

they pronounce it NEW-fund-LAND (the New and the Land are pronounced as they would be if they were on their own, while the fund is almost lost and comes out sounding almost like fun.)

as for the taxes, don't even try to pull that conversion stuff on me, not when i saw gas being sold for 58 cents a liter. it wasn't until hour later that we figured out how many liters were in a gallon

Posted by Raven on 04-08-2001 09:37 PM:

KUJOS to all the Canadians!!!! What a fine country, great trails too! Specially Vancouver and Whistler.

Oh, by the way... I'm new here... laugh at me...

Posted by IceFire on 04-08-2001 10:33 PM:

Yes its pronounced Newfunland. Thats the proper pronounciation. Its not really odd at all.

Posted by Snipes on 04-08-2001 11:28 PM:

HAHAHA @ Raven!!!

Yeah for Canada...

wait...

I live in NY...

I wonder what Canadian schools have where we have US History...

Canadian history...?

And I was shocked to find that Canada fought in WWII...

I thought they were neutral... :-/

It's obvious that they fought in WWII... after all, can't you see that these Canadians are psychomaniacs, by doing huge SpaceShips armed with big Meson Cannons...
That's why I like them so much!!!

We entered World War II about a week after the British did. Trying to separate ourselves from the British after all. That an our Prime Minister was waiting for the stars to be right. But that was just him.

Meanwhile, you American type people didn't do anything for almost another year. So yeah, we were in the war in a big way. Infact, most of the intelligence operatives (Canadian, British, and US) trained in Canada in Kingston Ontario...or nearby anyways.

Yes we have Canadian History. I haven't taken as many Canadian History has I have taking history courses about the Rennaisance and the French Revolution. I also took Politics, that was a great course to argue in

Whoa!... Slow it down... know that I am a small and proud Portuguese, so don't come along saying that my country "didn't do anything for almost another year", becouse we didn't do anything during the whole war

Kinda sarcastic, uh?

I like how I'm an American type, and not an actual American...

Posted by bob_the_humble_freespacer on 04-10-2001 01:40 AM:

damn, all you people live in interesting places. I live in Lansing michigan, and i'm bored out of my mind. the fanciest resturant we have here is the olive garden (i've sure got some interesting stories 'bout that place).

Anyways, question: Canadians have culture? I thought you guys just hacked it offa France, Britain, and us.

Posted by IceFire on 04-10-2001 03:03 AM:

We are...but that equals a totally new culture.

Not as arrogant as the Americans, not as French as the French (its Quebecois..not real French - its barely the same language), and not as expansionistic as the English.

We're quiet patriots...were a bit more Liberal overall. Yada yada yada. The culture varies across the countly like it does anywhere else. The Westerners are alot different than those in the East. Here in Ontario, were the most "Americanized" and also home to the largest portion of the population.

So there is more to Canada than perhaps meets the eye. Read up about the country a little more.

Posted by Charger on 04-10-2001 09:54 AM:

you think your isolated in michigan, hah. i am in diego garcia, which is in the British Indian Ocean Territory. we are so isolated that we don't even have a goddamned Mcdonalds. now thats isolated.

(though personally, i would prefer to have a descent chinese resturant instead, these mauritians suck at making chinese food )
