Since we know so little about Shivan technology (let alone what the GTVI has cooking up ) it could be safe to assume that the Capella nebula was created for fuel.

However the Shivans might as well power their vessels with sub-space singularities.

IceFire's observation is very true, the Shivans went after sub-space signatures within the Knossos nebula far faster then standard attacks on main routes.

Now let's look at the Great War shall we?

The primary Shivan attacks in Terran-Vasudan space were where the refugees fled to, and then all of the sudden the attacks were on the main lines of the V-T war.

What was going on in Ribos before the Lucifer? Heavy sub-space traffic, the GTA moved it's fleet through Ribos to reach other systems.

The Shivans knew of this traffic and so entered Ikeya from an uncharted sub-space node, the Taranis detected the Galatea and where it came from, prepared for an attack, was captured, detected the massive signatures from the GTA fleet's passage, and called in the Lucifer.

The entire Shivan strategy is based on the location and elimination of sub-space travel, homeworlds just happen to have the most sub-space travel and with how trade routes work, the Shivans just follow the trails and take out the source.

Even in FS2, the observation that "well we sent a cruiser, they sent a corvette, we sent a Colossus, they send a fleet of Sathani" is some what true, the Rashaska attacked the Vigilant for it's "being there" then when reinforcements came, the Shivans were drawn to Capella like wasps, the more ships in the nebula, the quicker the Shivans moved.

Within a nebula, the Shivans appear to be more efficient in this detection and elimination.

Now, this does not explain why Capella is gone, but it does explain their tactics.

What happened in Capella deals with Bosch, but the reasons aren't talking dancing Shivans with diplomacy, the reasons are by far beyond what the admiral thought he got into...

wow, and i thought i wrote alot

By the way, if Capella even did become a nebula, the gas would be ejected one or two light-years out with the explosion. Which would mean they'd need either another jump node or a lot of patience.

Didn't they say the nebulae beyond the first Knossos was a few lightyears uh... big?

why do people always think that the terrans are going to think that we will be their enemies when we came back?

did they think that as soon as they lost sol that all the remaining billions of humans would capitulate to the shivans? the vasudans carried on without their homeworld (towards the end of fs1 but the effects of the loss could have been easaly analysed by the terrans).

When the gtva return to sol, what are they goin to do open fire on the nearest terran transport ship and rape and pillage the colonys? no they would jump in and would be hailed as saviours or summit, admitedly some tyranical despot had taken over control of earth (very unliely more likely to be a constant state of martial law) but what would they do, disagree with gtva control of Sol but really the people would be for it.

Posted by George on 12-27-2000 01:00 AM:

even if the terrans living on earth did decide to try and attack the gtva they could just close down the portal and leave them there.

However, the mentality of the terrans cut off from earth (we wanna go home) would probably make them try to conquer earth rather than shut the portal down.

Don't for a second think that BlackWater falls into any of those previously mentioned categories squarely or exactly.

Sol has become cut-off...they have been isolated. Things happen...misunderstandings happen.

You mean they become paranoid...right?

a clear case of the convicts taking over the sanitarium.

Posted by IceFire on 12-29-2000 02:54 PM:

Santiarium? Where? This isn't a sanitarium? Right? Right?

Posted by Mr Carrot on 12-29-2000 03:45 PM:

but arnt we considering the fact that the greatest leaders and scientists were all on earth or within the sol system at the end of fs1? And surely as the gtva point out in the tech room they expect something like this to happen, i just cant see it happening perhaps i am too much of an optimist.

Posted by IceFire on 12-29-2000 11:13 PM:

All I'll say is that things don't always work out the way they are supposed to and ulterior motives get in the way of what makes sense

Posted by Mr Carrot on 12-30-2000 04:25 PM:

common sense hey........

actually considering the human race managed to create its doom in the form of "TAS" anything is possable :P

Posted by Melef on 12-30-2000 08:56 PM:

I'm telling you guys, the original Alpha 1 has conquered Sol and now rules with an iron fist!

Hey btw, will the Silver Scythes by back?

Posted by Snipes on 12-30-2000 11:02 PM:

But if you think about it... The Terran government on Sol would reject the GTVA. You know as well as I do that if you have power, you wanna keep it... A war would begin between Sol, and the GTVA, and you have a Gundam themed story going on... The GTVAwould win, of course, and Sol would probably become inhabitable.

Now, That's presuming there still is life on Sol. Remember how the tech room says that after the GTA fell, there were many governments? Well, what if that happened on Sol? There would have been clashes, possibly another cold-war, and what if it wasn't such a peaceful cold war? What if they unleashed their nukes, and what-not missiles and destroyed the planets surface, rendering it uninhabitable? No more Sol...

I'm sure the HOL would have loved that...

Posted by George on 12-31-2000 07:06 AM:

If Sol were to have survived somehow they wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight if they wanted to as they have been cut off from the rest of the universe for sometime.

Of course they could have developed some incredible technology by salvaging stuff off the wreck of the Lucifer as the video shows that the front half got through before the portal collapses.

Posted by Snipes on 12-31-2000 07:35 PM:

How about this...

When the Sol node is opened, we find a Knossos portal outside of uranus and Shivans have taken over the system?

Or Vasudans have somehow taken over earth in the name of Khonsu the 8,000th or sumtin'

BTW, sorry for not knowing, but what exactly is the charon, and how can it be soooooo big?

Posted by Mr Carrot on 01-01-2001 01:40 AM:

nah bosch is the supreme leader of the shivans and has conquered the earth in order to use the cheap child labour to make space crack
