-- Ahm... What does Golgotha mean? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=1464)

But shivans aren't stupid. the GTVA could burn say, two sathanas that jumped in, the one after the other. ok, now, they're detecting another subspace fluctuation, the big G is charging up his beam for the next victim. But instead of a huge jumpoint, there's dozens of really smal ones that appears: lots of seraphims targetting the big G, with lots of maras as cover... ouch!

Jumpnodes don't have one exit vector. I don't think so....its just that way for mission balance.

No tactical situation is 100% sound either way. The Golgotha is just a means to a potential tactic that the GTVA wouldn't have previously.

Every little bit helps against the Juggernaughts... and the Big G is one big help!

Any word on its AAA capability? Or does it have to rely heavily on escorts for protection from bombers..?

Well its not as good as the Hecate but its better than the Orion. Because of the meson accelerator coils it does have some dead zones where ships and bombs can get through. But its not too bad.

Ok - just checking in case I ever have to blow it to bits...

Btw, in your preview (the .avi one ) you can see the Golg destroy the aeolus from 97-0 in about a second or 2 (and in just one burst too ).

So my question is, how many "bursts" does Golg need to take out an

Orion
Hecate
Collossus?

The answer is 1, 1, 5-6. Now there is varried power levels so the Golgotha crew can fine tune the attacks.

In-game, if the Golgotha needed to really nail something big, we could offline its turrets, and continuous fire the main gun till it destroyed its target.

Yeah but if it killed all the really big ships in one shot then that wouldn't be any fun now would it.

Yeah, but if you off-line its turrets, then you'd have to protect it while it does its job!

(edit: typo)

Is that a table thing? "GogothaCannon-Medium" and etc?

Well its just one setting at the moment. Usually whenever it fires, the destroyer infront blows up. I'm thinking on larger terms....if the Golgotha wants to blast a juggernaught, it can do it in a longer continuous stream.

You would think that at some point they would develop hulls that are much more resistant to this new Meson Beam.

Posted by BlackDove on 04-15-2002 05:34 AM:

So what you do is put a Collossus in front of her, she blows in it, and while she has her guns down, you jump in 5 wings of bombers, and they nail her for good with the new Harbinger6 bombs?

Repeated damage SEXP, I guess. Especially if you have to take the turrets offline while it fires.

That'd be pretty difficult to do...even for Shivans. The meson particles will break down the target hull until it collapses. This happens at the subatomic level so there isn't much that can stop that. The pressure change or the potential to hit a reactor or other critical system will criple the ship. Some ships will just shake themselves apart so there isn't even that possibility.

The meson cannon is akin to blasting a tank with a sand gun that fires sand at 2km/s.

As in it wears down the hull until it gets inside, where it does the same to vital internal systems. Even if a ship survives its so badly messed up you might as well scrap it, the time it would take to repair.

Or am I talking rubbish again?

Thats sort of the idea...except that the Golgotha's concentrated reaction is so strong that "wearing" away is far too light a term. The ships hull basically looses its molecular bonding.

ah, so the area hit literally 'turns into' seperate molecules!

Cool...
