Guys, this can be viewed as pretty tasteless. I don't care if Weyoun TDB here claims that he's gay and he has checked it with his gay friends, it's bound to offend someone.

I do agree with Killmaster on that "What is the link between sexual preferences and video games?" Now if you're serious about it, do it, post it on the archives, talk to the people who are interested in helping out in private, not only will it minimize the risk of someone being offended but it'll mean that the jokes are fresh and new even for people who do check the forums often. If you're not then let's let the discussion end now.

Sorry about this stance on the matter, but I can see this as a start of VBB style "spammage by any other name."

So as I wrote before:
Do it I see no problem and I won`t be offended. If someone would feel offended, than there`s no need to download the mission.
BTW I think if you` re gay it`s only your choice if you`d like to do a joke, or not. The same in any case : I won`t ask for permission if I`d like to make laugh at myself (BTW remember "I`m new laugh at me" ? ) , I would be schizofrenic, don`t you think?

And again: your mission, your choice. And we can either dowload it or not.

And PC, well.... I don`t mind the other`s preferences, point of view with only two exceptions: I cannot stand the people who are extremely rude or exclaim their hate to the others.
I have some friends who came from Africa and Asia and I see no difference- they`re all cultural, nice people. I live in a country where it can be hard to find someone who could be other ( as declared, over 95 % of the citizens are white born Polish speaking Polish catholics ) and they`re somehow "outstanding" - but I don`t mind at all.

Well another thing with the PC is that it remids me some ways of speaking before the 1989 ( fall of the communism): there was mentioned if you belonged to a worker`s family or not, if you were "intelelctual" you could find some trouble, you vould be "politically suspect" , for short period if you were robbed by a Russian you couldn`t say it because it would have stroke in the " eternal friendship between the worker`s nations"
We should not exxagerate. Tolerancy is obvious for the people who are cultural, or educated. And if not, that`s our task to react.

If your mission is about fun and humour then get into it...but remember it has to be funny.

There's no point in boring straight players with a Gay mission if the writing is dull...I reckon (and your idea is a good one) a Gay mission could really be original.

Personally I would up the camp and don't bother with the sexual 'Are you Gay Alpha?' type conversations.

Play up on the language of Freespace and camp up the Space genre in General.

Example.

'...you know how I like these covert missions, it's just the waiting I can't stand, it's just,oh I don't know, so...punishing.'

'Alpha one do you read Alpha one?'

'Roger'

'You still have my Sequined slippers, Alan, you know;
the Captain's Ball last month (ding dong) anyway I need them...'

I think partially it is the problem of the culture and beeing OK among the people. I mean, if it is not prosecuted by law, it is the matter of the people., of us also, how we react. I always thought the GTD Phonecia (see bearbating) was a bit of a gay name for a ship, who names battleships after flowers?

Oh, another thing, in the first mission of FS2, one of the vasudans aboard the Psamtik says "Begin plasma core insertion".

I don`t know what is the origin of the Phoenicia`s name, but Phoenicia was also a name of an ancient country and later province of Rome ( as Aquitaine) so it may be named after it.

Has anyone bothered pointing out that you can't change automatic pilot chatter on a per-mission basis? The only way to do it would be to sacrifice an entire Terran persona just for this mission.

Well if I may suggest,
since you are so UN-PC.... don't stop with Sexuality... some people who do not have gay friends, or are not gay might not see the idioticy of the concept of being politically correct. Have a Jew, a Muslim, a Catholic, a Homosexual, a white, a black, an asian, a martian, an Uranusian, etc....

I think this might go over well if you are trying to make a humerous mission.

I would not reconmend doing this as a mission for your campeign, it might take away too much from your story.
If you wanted to have gay wingmen, or officers, and etc, and hint to their sexual orientation in the mission that could keep it serious enough to keep it in your campeign (might be interesting to do something where the player has to wonder whether or not they are gay? Ambigously Gay Duo (saturday Night Live)). This might be the exact opposite of what you want, and if so I apologize, but who knows this might be helpful to what you want...

to sum it all up, you might even one to do an entire mini-Campeign.... write it like a soap opera even..... like with the mission briefings and what not. You could really have a very funny piece on your hands here. But again I don't think it should be put in with your campeign (which I thought sounds interesting), because it might distract some players too much from the story...

You know, the topic is becoming almost pointless. Its HIS missions, HIS campaign, and HIS idea. For those who really are gay and like his plot, great, have fun playing the game. For those of you get offended by sexual preference, dont play the campaign.

Its almost like the same thing between a GOOD and a BAD campaign. If its a BAD campaign, no one will play it (in this case, if you're offended). If its a GOOD campaign, then everyone will be rushing to download it (for those of you who want to play). He, as author of the missions, can decided if he wants to release it, or even make it. But that fact is, you all can argue forever on who would be offended, and who wouldnt be offended. Have him release the campaign if he wants to. If no one downloads it, or if his FTP provider or server download provder or whatever thinks that its BAD, then his time will have been wasted. If theres hundreds of downloads each day, then he spent the right time doing it.

One just simply cannot judge a campign before it has been released.
