Actually it worked as far as I can tell.

I'm kinda disapointed in the fact that if you have a Forcefeedback stick like a MS Sidewinder the game completely disables the return to center force and there is no forcefeedback support. Without return to center controling the starfury becomes a really sloppy ordeal. The physics will probably drive people away like has already been stated. Maybe physics closer to I-war2 would be better.

@Ranger: I use a MS FF Pro 1 and don't have any probs...the stick centers without any probs. Ask in the bugs-forum about that.

This IFH game has kinda put me off of Babylon 5.

the controls are completely ****e.....even Iwar2 was more controllable, i would like to move in the direction i face, the moment i face it.

also, the Autopilot is ****e, it auto-piloted me into an asteroid and since i was going soooo fast, i couldn't avoid it. (because of the ****e avionic controls, or whatever it is spelt like.)

I'd say they have a long way to go in those areas.

I have seen Starfuries on B5 episodes able to turn around and nearly instantly move in that direction......so why not on this game...if you are going 500m/s, it takes like 10 seconds to force in the other direction, within that time all the raiders were destroyed by my teammates.

In those instances, i prefer the TBP for Freespace 2, but for the other stuff, i prefer this rather bad controlled game.

But it surely looks good, if only they didn't ruin it with trying to make the controls realistic. :/

Oh well nothing is perfect,
JamieK

Posted by JamieK on 12-27-2003 09:44 AM:

I am 100% sticking with Freespace 2: TBP, there is no inertia problems.

In this IFH game, i have crashed 50 times into asteroids, when i have been trying to turn away 5 minutes before impact, but i still go opposite direction.

They should just get rid of the inertia thing, they are insulting the Babylon 5 Universe with the controls.

BlackSheep, I believe your voice comment was supposed to be directed to me. I read logs because my hearing is not as good as yours is.

uhm....inertia = reality but in space there is 0 friction and that slow stopping thing is there because you dont want to black out and hint dont drive at any speed above 100

hint, hint.

any speed lower then 150, you get shot at continusly, exactly like on Freespace 2 on Insane....which is a crap difficulty setting BTW.

Posted by JamieK on 12-27-2003 10:24 AM:

Well, the inertia is not my problem...the problem is that it takes sooooooo long to go in the right direction.

Iwar2 was better in this effect.....that game was easy to control, IFH is impossible for me.

So Inertia IS your problem...

...seriously, IFH isn't meant an arcade game like FreeSpace and when you see fighters turning around instantly in the show, they don't fly with 500m/s. If you are still playing IFH, try 250m/s and use strafing a lot. You can move in any direction, use that.

And don't compare FreeSpace2 and IFH...it is completely different...

"They should just get rid of the inertia thing, they are insulting the Babylon 5 Universe with the controls."
-that is a joke, right...?

@Fury: Gotcha...in fact other games list the messages upside down. And I think, that has an additional weird effect. I'll ask to add a line between the messages to distinguish them better.

Also, the update will hopefully have a message that tells you that the autpilot is CTRL-A. Thanks for your feedback.

i can find nothing wrong with IFH.

IFH physik is the most realistic space flight simulation physik ive ever played, and after one hour of training and having all the buttons in mind its realy easy to fly.

Ok, there are some problems, like the stupid auto pilot, mentioned somewhere above, but this only happened one time to me, the second time i knew the mistake and avoided it by flying manuel. But this can be repaired in the next version or whatever.

And the speed thing: I solved the raider and the first narn mission without movin at high speeds at all. i just stayed in the mittle of the battle area and avoided being hit with strafing in all directions.

Thats a pretty cool thing, and with inertial flight you can do all the cool things from the series, like flying forward while pointing with your guns backwards and shoot some raiders

that probably is cool, but i am talking about turning and avoiding an asteroid 2mins before you hit it, but you still hit it.

Some people say, 100-150m/s

You say 250m/s.

makes no difference, if i go at 100-150m/s, i am constantly getting shot at and at 250m/s, i might be able to avoid enemy fire, but i can't aim at all

I will give it a few more goes, but i doubt it will stick....but i managed to pass the first mission with invulnerability and not moving, but the narn mission, i fail since, the briefing says to ignore the cruiser and target the fighters, but the pilots don't defend the ship at all and the ship gets damaged and the mission is failed.

Oh well

Posted by Don Buergit on 12-27-2003 03:33 PM:

Ah, i know why you are losing that mission...

You have to destroy that little Narn Transporter, named "Green" in your HUD.

And avoid that asteroid. Your front and rea boosters are the most powerfull. Dont try to slide away from the asteroid if you are too fast. Look to right or left, in normal flight mode. Then hit the afterburner. The left or right engine will slow you down, while your rear or front engine will "strafe" you away from the collision course.

Go to the controls section in the options menu and check that you've got FF turned on

Uhm...sounds like you have inertial mode activated. Press Space to get into normal cruise mode...

I already know about that but it has no effect on my FF2. I hit autocenter and it will center the stick but it aqpplies no force to return it there when I move it and the FF just straight up doesn't work on it. I've tried disabling the controller software and I even tried creating a completely new profile for the game in the software with no effect on either. This stick does work as I use it in FS2 and several other games with the return to center and FF features. And I have gone to their forums but when I registered I accidently typoed my email address and now I'm completely locked out of the forums where it says I am not authorized to view these forums and this is on every page I go to.

Mail me your account name and I get you in again.

And...FF isn't working in that version yet...but the stick should center. Getting a good FF support can take pretty long...and so far I can live without it...there are not many games with good FF support at all...one of the best was FreeSpace 2 and NFS3...
