There ya Go! And at our rate we'll never find any of them

HOW did they start THe big damn bang
that theroy has so many flaws lol So what makes ya think there areand if there are what makes you think we'll come in contact with them and that there superious

Dudes, even if NASA did make contact with an alien race, they won't tell the general population. It would cause mass panic.
We are very close to it and i would not want to see us on the verge of being destroyed by the Cosmic Destroyers because we have gone somewhere we weren't meant to be at the time.
Also, what makes you think that the Aliens would need Oxygen??
they might be methaine or however it is spelt, or they might need Carbon-Monoxide.
My Spelling sucks. lol
Also, the aliens might have something called a non-interfeerence rule, since we are so primitive. lol
where can i get freespace 2??
hey im a babylon5 fan and freespace2 fan does anyone know where i can get freespace 2 so i can play thge babylon5 mod??
Getting back to the main topic of this thread; the idea of space combat may sound fun to some of us gamers, but of course the reality of the situation is that it's just plain not cool.
Lets admit it war is not cool, not in real life anyway. I for one hope the world's militarys never set foot outside our atmosphere (starwars is as far as they go). Any altercations in space would horribly crush any progress toward future space exploration.
Only when we humans have colonized a few planets, then we can declare our independence from Earth and start wars.
Sure it's fun for us to sit back and watch ourselves blow up because we got too close to the flak turrets and beam cannons, as we hit the restart button. Imaging trying to play the entire campaign and thereafter without dying ONCE, and then uninstall the game and never play it again if you do. Most of us would likely suck at that.
With that said I'd gather that none of us would really want to be in an actually Herc duking it out with another fighter; we'd sure be a little more cautious about attacking that Aleolus cruiser (remember not a single respawn).
I sincerely hope to see the day we achieve another breakthrough in technology that would take us around our solar system and to the stars. Perhaps it would help unify the world, reducing the concentration on military superiority.
Space exploration is important to humanity. The ISS is being built under the cooperation of many nations. People realized the importance of Columbia's mission after its loss; not just for scientific experiments, but for world peace. When the tragedy occured, the whole world mourned.
Space is a big place, but there is no room in it for war.
Amen
Well it`s not so certain any other civilization would like to establish contact with us.
Scale is the biggest problem. Whatif there`s deeply advanced civilization in a galaxy, say, from Virgo Group? Possibility that we could find them or that they could find us is almoust 0.
Actually we may be able to establish cntact with a civilization that is located quite close to us, certainly in our Galaxy and quite close to us. But again it`s possible we`re the only civilization in our Galaxy.

This is why I really hope they find life on either Mars or Europa. It really would end this sort of discussion. Even if we haven't contacted them yet it would seem unlikely that life could evolve independantly twice in one system and never anywhere else.

Finding life outside this system using the technology we have would be very difficult, but technology does advance. Just look at the last century, or even the last five decades: we achieved supersonic flight, landed a dozen or so men on the moon, launched god knows how many satelites, and we're now looking at making railguns a standard military weapon. Granted, I for one don't really want to see railguns deployed conventionally, just because I'd fear for the existence/survival of the human race, but the technology is there.
Given another 50 years, we may be able to see the surface of a planet 20 lightyears away clearly, granted of course that the images would be 20 years old, but thats beside the point: lights in the night would mean civilization, darkness would mean lack of developed civilization.
As for actual space combat, I sincerely hope we never see such a thing - 200 different painful ways to die from one small mistake doesn't sound like fun to me.

How is it possible to even think of war in space?? I mean it would take soooooooooooooo much money to just build one ship then to train the pilots would take a few years then once there in space how would they be able to move around swiftly?
I just don't think its gonna happen though I could be very wrong.
Another thing I'd like to know is how would they develop weapons for space use and how strong would ships be? Would it be like a one hit kill or what? I really don't know But I hope we don't see wars in space.. It could devestate the earth. Just imagine a Country launching spaceshuttles loaded with atomic bombs then sending them back into the atmosphere and wiping out countries :| that would be scary stuff!
And that's exactly what they would have said about using aeroplanes to fight wars a couple of years after the wright brothers.
Why use aeroplanes to fight wars? One shot will bring them down!
People will build warships in space as soon as anyone starts putting any sort of weapon up there. They'll have to as the concequences of letting another side get total control of space are too nasty to let it happen.

Seriously though, I am hopeful and perhaps even anticipating the eventual discover of some form of rudimentiary life, past or present, on either of those two worlds. Plans are being laid for the Europa Orbiter probe which could get a closer and more extended investigation of the frozen world. Preliminary plans are also being loosely assembled for a probe to be sent to that vicinity that would be powered by an actual nuclear fission reactor... not that cheap isotope decay stuff they've been using for deep space missions since the early days. This would be coupled with a powerful ion drive and an array of scientific intruments that require too much energy for use on current probes. Its been suggested that such a probe could be launched as early as 2012.

Well,
You never know, alien races could be visiting us on a regular basis.
Also, even if we were the only race in this galaxy, what makes you think the aliens couldn't go so fast that they could arrive at our galaxy in a matter of minutes???
For example, the Azgard on Stargate SG-1, they were in space 30,000 years ago, which is a long time.
Also, Aliens would most likely be more advanced then us, MUCH more.
I just pray they aren't very warlike........or worse, like the Borg. *shivers* or even more worse, the Snake-Heads (Stargate).
I just hate it when people say it is impossible to do this or that, as someone has already said, that 100 years ago, trying to tell someone about computers like ours would get him put into a madhouse.
Imagine it, look how much we have advanced in the 20th Century......alot eh?

Has anyone ever stopped to think that we might be the most advanced race in the universe and there are civilizations out there still going through the stone age-era evolutionary process? I dont want to sound like a sci-fi dork here, but could we be, for instance, the first ones from B5?

OMG
That means... we are the Shadows!!
Cool!!!
Trying to prove the existance of life in the Universe is like trying to discover the Shivan's agenda... pointless until you have proof!
Until then we can just make theories and hypoteses...

we can't say aliens do exist or do not exist..........also, i doubt if we are the most advanced race in the galaxy.....thinking that is rather big-headedness...
Also, i played the chapter #1 of Inferno and it made me think that the Terrans are the decendents of the Ancients and that is why the Shivans attacked on Freespace 1 without reason, since we were not invading or colonizing in different galaxies like the Ancients were.......so i think the Terrans are the Decendents of the Ancients.
Also, the Shivans destroyed the Ancients 8,000 years ago and i believe that the Human Race roughly appeared then.....i am rather ****e at history so i could be wrong.
