-- New Olympus model? (https://volitionwatch.game-warden.com/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=8996)
Earth is still using the Olympus at the time of the Drakh attack on Earth because one gets the railgun torn off by a wing of Drakh Fighters.
Olympus was never a premier warship but essentially its been reduced to a courier, patrol ship, and fleet support vessel. You still need to have a small vessel like the Olympus around...you can't replace one with a big huge destroyer. I bet any new designs were too expensive or not useful enough to justify a new line.

The class has probably been upgraded over the years as well. New electronics, sensors, maybe beefing up a couple of the turrets.
Where is the railgun located? Just out of curiousity.

The top turret...it fires...but seldomly.

And I can imagine the Olympus is very cheap.
So if you get nearly you whole fleet blown apart by the Minbari, you surely want to build some ships for coping with raiders as soon as possible (and as cheap as possible).
I just watched Sleeping In Light, and in the scene in question it's pretty difficult to prove that the ship is an olympus. The only one that I can think it might be is the boxy one next to the Sharlin, but it looks awfully ig compared to the Minbari ship. So based on size alone, I think it's another ship.
Mission idea for when all is said and done (EVERYTHING completed):
Pilot is part of an honor guard escorting the last shuttle out of B5. You do the last flyby, form up and move down the line of ships. One of every non-firstone/Drakh military ship should be there. With the exception of the EAS Janus, the cap ships should be named for major contributors to the Project. The shuttle should be called the Straczynski. I think that would be a nice icing on the cake mission. (Granted, on that we'll have to wait a very, very long time for.)

I'm refering to the greyish ship just behind the Sharlin in the shot looking down fron the docking pylons.

Yep. Look in the next shot where they are heading away. It definately looks somewhat like a primus. Almost certainly a Centauri vessel. They probably reskinned/edited the Primus slightly and then said it's a new type of Centauri cruiser.

First) I can tell a Primus from a flying brick.
Second) I stated that the ship I mentioned was the only one that looked in any remote context, anything like an Olympus.
Third) In my first post on this thread I said that the only Earth ship I remembered seeing there was a Hyperion/Midwinter.
edit: In the shot facing the station, first ship screen left.

Bad karajorma! Bad!
Unless its a drastically different mesh, then its probably your standard Primus model (which I wouldn't see the CGI team changing for one obscure scene). It MAY have been of higher quality than when we first saw it but probably little else.

StarFurys kick ass!
In a firefight with a beam equiped warship the defense grid's effectiveness is essentially ZERO. The beam reaches the target before interceptor fire can be fired, and any fields surrounding the unfortunate ship will be overwhelmed in the impacted section within seconds, if there is any effect at all.
Given some of the statements made in Severed Dreams I'm willing to believe the EA beams, being of lower power than other races and having a more limited duration can be deflected at least in part. But those EA defense grids worked soooo well againt Minbari weapons.

i) Particle beam weapons and laser/X-ray weapons are not the same - the former can be intercepted in theory, the latter cannot as there is precious little to intercept.
ii) EA interceptors can apparently form an "energy web" that can deflect a small portion of incoming energy from any weapon source.
Now, the energy web is easier to represent in the form of a low level shield or similar (or just increasing the hull strength of the ship slightly). The interceptors working properly depends on a number of things, namely being able to actually intercept the shot, aiming properly to do so and having the AI to determine when to intercept, what shots to intercept and when to fire at enemy fighters. This makes "realistic" implementation of interceptors a very tough project and not likely to be seen soon. Certainly not before "swarm" firing is sorted on weapons like the Centauri twin arrays or "offensive" interceptor fire.

Well, I guess the main thread isn't about whether the ship in Sleeping in Light was an Olympus or not, but here's resolution to the issue:
