Depends on how it's used. You can't automatically dis-count a ship because it's big, heavy and sluggish. It just takes a different kind of pilot to fly straight and level as they line up the kill-shot.

WWII torpedo bomber pilots-now those guys had the big brass ones.

i could do some messing around with the idea of realy big and sliggish fighters and bombers. it shouldn't be that hard if i think about it long enough.

Absolutely. Ever tried to take on a carrier group (in, for example, Warbirds III) with a TBF Avenger or a Nakajima B5N? FS2 bombers have never faced such pounding those ships throw at you...

If that... that... "Thing" is 95 meters and has 6 turrets, a White Star can't be much more difficult than what you have already done before, right?

In my view (which is not much), the only problem will be the actual modding (shape, textures, etc...) and AI.

The flak bursts in Combat FlightSim 2 put me into the water many a time.

Ashrak, that thing is not a capship, it's a bomber...
and I believe it's playable

By the way, will the sliding maneuvers be operational by the time R2 comes out?

No...not yet. Not till it doesn't confuse the hell out of the AI too.

I know of a game where there are slide options avaliable. Their AI have no problem with the move. In fact they are very good at using it. Aries Rising is such a game. If that can be any help to u at all good luck with it.

Then the AI would have to be better to escort you... otherwise you could be toasted...

That's because in that game the ngine and the AI are built with sliding in mind. This is not the case with FS2. (At least not to the great extent as say the Wing Commander games or Terminus.)

If the source code has been released then the AI's may be able to be worked on and altered to perform sliding menuvers. If i could work the coding myself i would have done it a long time ago. But i don't have a blue about the language that FS2 is writen in.

Possible...its just that this is not yet the case. At the moment, AI will perform sliding manuvers in some places as a replacement for turning. Meaning that ships will slide far out of their way to attack a ship with guns. In other cases, its simply mystifying why...but I've had it where a Mara would, instead of chasing a Herc Mark 2, slide to the side to try and follow it. Instead, the Herc 2 got away, and with no sliding, turned around later and came back to kill the Mara that was still going sideways instead of ahead when it was supposed to.

The AI is not yet ready for sliding...

ok so the AI isn't ready. but that doesn't make a hunam player not ready. I know i have always wanted to do some clasic fly sidways along a cap ship or even fly backwards to cover your ass as u fly away from fighters. as i recall it is a common starfury tactic to fly backwards to cover your own ass in the heat of battle?? is it not??

For crying out loud... stop giving advice to coders about how to code AI routines - especially since you know nothing about the subject. There was a time when I was amused by such posts, but now I just feel sorry for you.

(And please don't take this as an insult, I'm just trying to give a friendly hint. Such people are seen quite often here and at HLP, saying the same things ("I know what should be done, I just can't code"). Good ideas however are naturally welcome, just don't try to be the foremost expert in all the fields unknown to you.

Besides, didn't Bobboau already implement sliding maneuvers for AI pilots? Quote: "the AI now uses sliding to atack other ships and to avoid things".
Get TBP_open and try it yourself.

Edit: oops, redundant now - two posts appeared meanwhile.
Sliding has been possible for a while, just map the keys for it in the options.

I want to see an Omega and a Vorlon ship in action. And First Ones, (If possible with what little info we have)

That will only be possible after the R5 has been complete (it's in the fifth, isn't it?).

About the sliding, is it possible to give the sliding maneuvers only to the human player? To prevent the AI from using them?

I don't remember but I think it has the same problem the SCP build does. The AI uses it...its just horribly bad at using it in any effective way.

hey Jokoto don't just asume that i know nothing. I have some programing skills. just not in the programing language that is used in FS2. and i didn't take it personaly, or as an insult. however. this is how i learn how to do things.
