And I too...

Sleeping in Light is the only episode of a TV series that has provoked me to tears since I was a child.

There is something about the story and the development of the characters that for me, at least, is worthy of eternal memory.

B5 was, and is, the first of a kind, and epic novel told in glowing phosphors rather than static print.

The relationships, friendships, alliances, trusts, truths, heartbreaks and betrayals all seem to belong to a circle of friends and enemies that we have been priviledged to partake in.

Farscape has come a good second to this, but B5 still holds the light.

May it sleep well in that light

annoyingly, I doubt Babylon 5's strong story and arcing plot will be emulated in the near future.

I am one of those mentioned by JMS on the Lurkers Guide who have a habit of playing the last 10 minutes of Sleeping In Light over and over again.
It is without a doubt the finest ending for a TV series I`ve ever seen. (I also tend to watch the bit where Sheridan takes one last look at B5 and salutes Lockley in Objects At Rest a lot).

Damn. I`ve got tons to do but now I have to go watch it again.

... Battle for power...
Good Guys vs Shadows....
A hero falls at Z'Hadum in B5, a hero falls at Kah'Zadum in Tolkiens.
Both of those heroes are ressurected and both at the conclusion of the story sail to land/area of space beyond all knowledge...

Lorien is the name of a charater in b5, Lothlorien is an elvish forrest

there are some similarities.. In fact JMS said he was inspired by tolkien, infact who cannot...

A lot of people compare the two mostly due to their length and how well thought out and planned they were... but B5 is not Dwarves in space by any means..

B5 is by far the TV show I connected with the most. Watching the rise and fall of Londo.... wondering how G'Kar would loose his eye, and what would happen to the Centauri wehn ..Vir took over( great Maker help them)... I remember Marcus and Franklin having their interesting arguments... I remember always trying to figure out how Bester would do it... I remember wave after wave Narn fighting for B5 fall as EA soldiers battled to take control of the station... I remeber Vir finally waving up to Mr Morden's head on a pike..and later holding my breath when Vir and Londo realised that the Vorlons would wipe out centauri prime if londo wasn't killed too... trully a masterpiece. when people compare JMS B5 to JRR Tolkiens LoTR, I hope they do so in the respect and fondness that they have acquired by re-expirencing these beloved stories again and again.

Indeed

And for a TV show, Intersections in Real Time was something else.

One of the most powerful pieces of small-screen work I've ever seen.

Breathtaking.

Aaahhh, the memories....

Can't wait for Season 2 and the rest to come out on DVD. I find I have to ration myself to only one episode a day so I don't watch the whole boxed set in a week!!!

I agree with you 100% and I know that JMS gets really annoyed with people who claim that B5 is just Lord of the Rings in Space. That's why I was kind of surprised that he opened himself up to more speculation of this kind by giving Legend of the Rangers exactly the same initials.
I guess he just said "These idiots are going to keep saying it anyway. To hell with it" or words to that effect

Besides it's obvious that B5 isn`t LotR in Space cause if it was who is Sauron? There is no evil bent on domination of everything in B5 unlike LotR
